Introduction: Foot Warmer / Faux Booty

About: Hi! I am just feeling my way around trying to become useful to humanity with all these super crazy ideas I have in my mind. I probably should apologize straight off the bat for choosing this awesome site full …

Anyone who experience anything from a chill to blistering cold will appreciate the need for this foot warmer and faux booty. A easy DIY that can be worn with knee length to long skirts and is so warm and comfy. To create it you will need :-

Supplies

A one yard stretch fabric for rauched top layer

A half yard two way stretch fabric for bottom layer
Sewing thread
Sewing machine or sewing needles
Tape measure
Chalk
Scissors

Step 1: Marking and Cutting

You will need to take four measurements:-
1 - consider how high you want your foot warmer to be and measure from your ankle to that height. My warmer is knee high therefore my height measurement is 21 inches.

In photo 1 above I am showing the top my booty which is the wider part my thigh and the narrower part my ankle - form the thigh to the ankle is 21 inches. that is the actual length/ height my faux booty is going to be

2 - Measure around that part of your leg where your desired height is. Fold your half yard material lengthwise to half of that measurement.
3 - Measure around the thickest part of calf and mark that measurement. You can find exactly where this mark should be by measuring from the top of the chosen height where you want your foot warmer to reach down to the thickest part of your calf on your body then mark that length on your fabric.
4 Next and last measurement is the circumference or around your ankle and mark off half the measurement from your folded edge at the bottom of your fabric

In the pictures above first also you see where my arrows are pointing to the three circumference measurements. around the thigh, around the calf and around the ankle, you are only going to measure off half these measurements on the fabric you have laid out, remember you have folded your fabric in half.

BEFORE you cut your long length for ruffling make sure your fabric is folded wrong side facing up.

The next picture shows how to slightly slant the fabric to get that tapered off measurement for the long piece.
For your second fabric your length needs to be three times the length of the first cutting as it is going to be gathered throughout the length of you booty

To get the wideness of your second fabric add 2 to 4 inches to the 3 circumferences you measured for the first fabric cutting. 2 extra inches gives a snug fit. 4 extra inches gives a baggy fit.

YOU will need to cut 2 lengths of each length to make a pair of leggings

Step 2: Joining the Two Fabrics / How to Ruffle It

Get that booty look by pleating your long cut just as how you fold it and cut it, do not open it up. Simply start making 1/2 pleats 4 inches from the top straight down to the bottom, leaving off 2 inches at the bottom for folding off. the four inches at the top is also for folding off / neatening.

I pleated the entire length of the long fabric first, then placed it in between the shorter length fabric getting ready to stitch it.

Step 3: Stitching

After you have completely pleated up your long length cut and secured it between your short length cut you may now go ahead and make your seam. At the risk of breaking your needles, do not sew over the pins remove them one by one as you get them.,

Step 4: Finishing

Now that you have stitched the whole length of both foot of your work all that's left to do is to turn them out or over to the right side and fold under allowances at the top and at the bottom.

THAT DONE:- Just slip them on and enjoy warm and cosy like never before!!!.

The first photo above shows a piece of attached fabric at the ankle it is purely optional and is simply a piece of V shaped fabric that is tied around the ankle to be tucked into shoe types that exposes the top of the foot for a little extra warmth.

The second photo is showing you the baggy fit.

The third photo is showing you the snug fit.

Thanks for viewing. Have yourself a blessed day!!!
