Is there a (very) strong em field? Or simpler, the bodies are under tension (a circuit made using: battery, wires, metallic bracelets, hands weted with salt water). Anyway nice joke, I think.

My guess is they have a battery somewhere with one wire gonig to each person. They rely on the conductivity of sweat to make the contact.
I guess they could have coated their hands with something conductive but I at least like to think the on/off thing is legit and not somebody off-camera.
