Cut, glue, fold and play !

This project is a follow up from the following instructable project: https://www.instructables.com/Origami-Frog-Mini-Games/

Be sure to go check it out to see how to fold the origami frog!

You are a Michael Jordan fan? You love the movie Space Jam? Then we offer you a new concept to turn your little sportsmen into basketball pros! Make baskets to score points.

Number of players: 1 to 2 players
Recommended age: 1 to 120 years old
Construction time: 1 hour
Difficulty of construction: medium (requires adult assistance at certain stages)

The goal of the game? To get the frog into the basket. Place the frog at the end of the field and adjust the height of the basket.

Multiplayer: Each one takes a turn at making a free throw. The further you score, the more points you score. Whoever has the most points wins!

Solo: Make a series of free throws at a desired distance. Try to get the frog into the basket as much as possible. Practice.

To start the tutorial proceed to step 1, have fun!

Supplies

The list of materials is simple:

  • 2 rolls of empty toilet paper (or one roll of household paper)
  • Tape (ideally a paper tape)
  • Glue (good glue!)
  • A pair of scissors
  • 4 tweezers
  • Some string
  • Colored paper
  • A white wine glass (or any other small heavy object)

Step 1: Build the Basketball Post

  1. Take your toilet paper rolls and cut one lengthwise
  2. Wrap it around 0.5-1cm. The goal is to shrink its diameter so that it fits into the other one.
  3. Once you hold it well, tape it lengthwise with the tape. We assure you that we don't do product placement for Tempo!
  4. Then cut two sheets of colored paper the width of the roll so you can wrap it around.
  5. Sometimes the dimensions of the toilet paper will vary so check anyway. Make sure that it doesn't protrude too much and that you can go around and back 2 to 3cm over the sheet.
  6. Then you have to glue the sheets on the rolls, put glue everywhere that it holds well.
  7. You can use tweezers to hold it while it dries.

Step 2: Build the Basketball Hoop

  1. Cut a strip of 2.5cm by 27cm. This is to make the basket.
  2. Stick it like in the picture and wait for it to dry.

Is it dry? Then let's go on !

Step 3: Put Everything Together

We are almost done! Now we will glue the two parts you built in step 1 and 2 together.

  1. Glue the basket to one end of the roll that had to be cut.

AND VOILA!

Your basket is ready! All you have to do now is to put them one inside the other and you have a height adjustable basket.

To customize it you can braid a string, if you have the courage...

And to keep it in place use your glass of white wine upside down and put your basket on it!

Step 4: Draw the Basketball Field

If you want more realism you can draw a field on a sheet of paper!

ENJOY !

Now if you want you can proceed to the next step to start building a TENNIS GAME!

Step 5: Build a Tennis Game

For tennis it's the same principle.

Here is the list of materials:

  • 4 rolls of empty toilet paper (or 2 rolls of household paper)
  • Scotch (ideally Scotch whiskey)
  • Glue (good glue!)
  • A pair of scissors
  • 4 tweezers
  • Twine or gauze
  • Colored paper
  • 2 white wine glasses (or any other small heavy object)

If you're not afraid proceed!

Step 6: Build the Posts

For the first step start by preparing posts like you've done for the basketball (without the basket).

If you haven't done the basketball game don't panic! Just follow step 1 of this instructable.

Step 7: Build the Tennis Net

In order to create the tennis net you need to:

  1. Cut a strip of gauze, if you don't have any gauze it's ok use something else, be creative!
  2. Glue the gauze on the rolls with the largest diameter (not the ones you cut, the others)

And... That's it... Put them on white wine glasses for stability and you're ready to play tennis!

For the tennis field go on the next step.

Step 8: Draw the Tennis Field

Here is how you draw the tennis field.

You're all set to play with your family.

And if you want you can play volleyball with it. Since you can mount the net!

For the storage don't panic, it takes very little space.

Step 9: Bonus

Bonus: Ideas for sports concepts

On the basis of the sports tutorials that were presented in basketball and tennis you can design new concepts, be creative!

Some ideas on the go :

  • Athletics
    • Long jump
    • High jump
    • Hedge race
  • Soccer

  • Ski

  • Running

Avoid swimming, not sure if your frogs can hold out... Yes it doesn't make sense, but don't forget that they are made of paper!

The possibilities of having fun with folded frogs are endless. Everyone can imagine a way to adapt this game.

ENJOY!
