Intro: Fruity 4th of July Ice Cubes

What makes a cool glass of water even better on a hot day?  Fruity ice cubes!  What could make your 4th of July even better?  Fruity 4th of July colored ice cubes!

STEP 1: Supplies

I've made these specifically for the 4th of July and that is why I used the fruit I did. Please feel free to change it up however you want!

Supplies:

  • Strawberries
  • Blueberries
  • Lemons
  • Water
  • Ice Cube Tray
  • Hand Blender (or real blender, whatever works for you)
  • Freezer
  • Water Pitches or some kind of liquid holding containers

STEP 2: Preparing Fruit

Time to get your fruits all ready!

Strawberries:
  • Clean your fruit.
  • Cut up strawberries into smaller pieces
  • Add your fruit to your cup (or blender) with enough water to cover them
  • Blend until smooth
  • Add more water to taste - I did about 6 strawberries (approx. 1 cup) to about 18 ounces of water, but use what works for you.
Blueberries:
  • Clean your fruit
  • Add your berries to your cup or blender with enough water to cover them
  • Blend until smooth
  • These are pretty chunky, strain if you would like, I left mine chunky and just left out the stuff that floated to the bottom of the cup.
  • Add water to taste - I had about 1 cup of berries to 18 - 20 ounces of water.
Lemons:
  • Clean your fruit (you never know what's on the outside of these)
  • Get about 18 - 20 ounces of water
  • Cut up lemons and squeeze lemons into cup (try to not get the seeds in it)
  • I kind of scraped off some of the lemon meat and put that in, but you don't have to.

STEP 3: Freeze

Time to make ice cubes!  If you can (and you are going to make a lot) I would say to use a tray for each flavor.  Otherwise, they try to blend together.

Pour your fruit water into the cube trays and freeze!

Might want to do this the day before you want them so they are completely frozen when you need them.

STEP 4: And Serve

Time to enjoy!  Combine them in whatever way you want.  Use just strawberries or just blueberries or mix them all together!.

This is a great idea, but some of the ice cubes look very unappetizing (the color). I'd have to experiment on this, as I don't want to spend the entire day explaining what is in some of them, or why they look brown. Very good instructions, though! :)

Or take a mallet and smash the fruit and freeze
Thanks they were very good my it a success
Great idea, I am going to try this. I know my wife will like it as well. Cool cubes! :)
It´s a pitty we can do it only today! :(
But it is wonderfully refreshing! :)
But you can do it any day! Change up the fruit and see what you can come up with! There is still a lot of summer left and this is perfect for any hot day :D
Read this instructable too late to make them for the 4th :( Still gonna do it, looks delicious!
Yeah, I came up with this idea very last minute :( but it's nice that you can do this whenever you want with whatever fruit you want! Great for summer all around!
Thanks! I just made it now i just wait to see if it messed up :).
