Introduction: Fudge Pirates (Cookie Hack)

About: Hello. I'm a freelance designer who makes a lot of different things for fun.

I love Peanut Butter and Chocolate together. Mr. Christie makes some good cookies, like Fudgee-Os (chocolate) and Pirate Cookies (peanut butter filling), but they don't have a cookie that combines them.

I wrote Christie to suggest combining the flavours but they said they already pay some people a lot of money to mess around in the kitchen, and they'd be mad if Christie used my idea instead.

I could have just bought two boxes of cookies and switched the fillings, but that wouldn't be very interesting and I wanted something Instructable-worthy, so here we have... Fudge Pirates.

PS. This Instructable was entered into the Chocolate contest :) Thank you! <3

Ingredients:

  • Fudgee-O cookies (or any chocolate sandwich cookie)
  • Peanut butter
  • Sugar
  • Cornstarch (optional)
  • Chocolate chips, or other melting chocolate
  • Salted peanuts and/or shredded coconut and/or crushed Reese's Pieces

You will also need wax or parchment paper in addition to knives and pots.

Step 1: The Cookies & the Filling

Deconstruction

Get your chocolate cookie to tear apart. Fudgee-Os were my cookie of choice, but if you've got Oreos laying around, you can use those. You'll probably want to make about a dozen cookies.

  1. Twist off one half - it should come off cleanly. Don't worry if there's a little extra stuck on.
  2. Remove the filling from the other half using a paring knife.
  3. Set the filling aside, or eat it if you have a good dental plan.

(Alternatively you could just use a plain cookie and skip this step.)

Preparation

Let's mix up some Peanut Butter! Scoop some out into a bowl. If you used natural PB, you're going to need to add some sugar (I used granulated, but use confectioners if you have it). Mix it up. The PB needs to be thick and tacky so it holds the cookie together. You can add some corn starch to help with this.

Step 2: Make a Sandwich

Lay your halves out and carefully spoon a small amount of peanut butter on each one. Then take the other halves and make a sandwich.

Look at these cookies. Look at them!

Step 3: Melt the Chocolate and Take a Dip

Take a bunch of chocolate chips and melt them in a double boiler.

If you don't have one, stack two pots of approximate size and about an inch of water in the bottom pot. Boil the water and melt the chocolate in the top pot. Stir until it's consistently melted, then lower the heat.

While the chocolate is melting (or at any time before this), chop up some salted peanuts.

Drop your cookie into the chocolate and coat both sides. Pick up with a fork and scrape off any excess chocolate. Place on wax paper. Before it cools, sprinkle generously with peanuts, coconut, chopped Reese's Pieces, or any combination of these.

You're done. Try to share them ;)
