Passing

Passing in basketball is when you throw the ball in some way to your teammate. It is an essential part of opening up the offense and creating the best opportunities to score.

When to use passing:

  • When to make a chest pass
    • Getting the ball to a teammate without defenders in the way
  • When to make a bounce pass
    • Getting past defenders by passing the ball under them
  • When to make an overhead pass
    • Getting the ball past defenders when all lower areas are blocked

Step 1: Chest Pass

1. Hold the basketball with two hands

2. Bring the basketball up to your chest area

3. While stepping forward, in one motion throw the basketball forward by pushing your arms out while flicking both of your wrists

Step 2: Bounce Pass

1. Hold the basketball with two hands

2. Bring the basketball up to your chest area

3. While stepping forward, in one motion flick your wrist down into the floor to bounce it to your teammate

Step 3: Overhead Pass

1. Hold the basketball with two hands

2. Bring the basketball above your head

3. While stepping forward, in one motion throw the basketball forward while keeping the ball above your head and flicking both of your wrists
