Introduction: Galaxy in a Jar

About: Hello, my name is Moorle. I am 13 years old and I live in Holland. I was supposed to start an account on this site for school, but I actually like it, so you'll probably see more of my instructables!

Hello, and welcome to this instructable! You've probably heard from this before: galaxy in a jar. But we still decided to make a new instructable to easily teach you how to make it. This jar full of what's above our head is a very nice decoration! You can put it everywhere you want, you can even give it away as a gift. And it's not hard to make at all!

Have fun,

Moorle and May

This is what you need

-A jar

-Cotton balls

-Water

-Food coloring in three galaxy colors (pink, blue, green or purple, you can choose)

-Paint in any color you want

-Glitters

-Bowl

-Skewer

Step 1: Fill 1/3 of the Jar With Cotton Balls

Get your cotton balls. Don't use them all, you'll need more to fill the rest of the jar! You can rip the balls up for a different, more galaxy-ish effect.

Step 2: Fill Your Bowl With Water

When you've filled 1/3 of the jar with the cotton balls, you get the bowl and fill it with water, around 1/3 the amount of the jar, or maybe a bit more.

Step 3: Put Food Coloring on Your Skewer

Then you get your skewer and dip it in the food coloring. Don't use too much, but also not too less! You really want a dark color so that it actually looks like galaxy.

Step 4: Color Your Water

As soon as you have enough food coloring on your skewer, you stir your skewer through the water. When the color is equally divided over water, you should look if you are happy with the color. If it is too dark, just throw a bit of the water away and add some clean water. If it is to light, add some more food coloring.

Step 5: Add the Colored Water to You Cotton Balls in the Jar

If you are happy with the color your water has, you can put it in the jar. Pay attention and don't put too much water in! Just so that it is filled to the edge of where your cotton balls stop. If you don't understand, take a look at the picture.

Step 6: Repeat Step 1 to 5

It's not that hard, just repeat the steps you've just done, but then with a different color of food-coloring! After that you'll repeat it once more and your Galaxy in a jar is finished!

Step 7: Now Repeat Step 6!

And after you've done that, you Galaxy in a jar is (almost) finished!

Step 8: If You Want, Paint the Lid of the Jar

If you already have a nice lid this isn't neccesary, but if your lid is boring like May's it looks really nice to paint it in a beautiful color!

Step 9: Done!

Now your beautiful decoration is finished!
