Introduction: Gamecube Resurrection!

This guide follows the steps on how I repaired four gamecube's on which three of them were DOL 001 and one DOL 101 with basic tools and google knowledge.

Supplies

  • Soldering iron
  • Decent Flux
  • Tin wire
  • Multimeter (optional)
  • Screwdrivers
  • 5 amp fuses

Step 1: Dissasembly and Cleaning

  1. Remove the four screws on the bottom with the special socket
  2. Lift the top part and thoroughly clean with compressed air and isopropyl alcohol as you disassemble all parts
  3. Take off all screws surrounding the disc reader unit
  4. Take off the disc reader unit by pulling upwards gently

Ahead there are some key differences between DOL 101 AND DOL 001

Step 2: DOL 101 Fuse Repair

Symptoms:

  • NO VIDEO
  • NO AUDIO
  • NO LED
  • FAN TURNS ON

Fix:

  1. After taking off the disc reader unit just check on the terminals on the side where the fuse is soldered there used to be a smaller fuse with "KOAC 5A" on it
  2. Check fuse with a multimeter on continuity setting if there is no continuity replace the fuse by removing the old one with a soldering iron and installing an electronics fuse as I did, you can find them in electronic stores easily.

Step 3: DOL 001 Fuse Repair

Symptoms:

  • NO VIDEO
  • NO AUDIO
  • NO LED
  • FAN TURNS ON

Fix:

There are some extra steps but its as easy as the 101

  1. After removing the disc unit take off all heat sink screws and disconnect the control port cable from the board
  2. Pull upward to remove the board be careful not to remove the heatsink as maybe you don't have the correct replacement heat pads if they get damaged
  3. Remove shielding and remove the power board
  4. Check continuity on fuse KOAC 5A if there isn't continuity replace the fuse and apply some electricians tape

Step 4: DOL 001 Resolder Chip Fix

Symptoms:

  • NO VIDEO
  • NO AUDIO
  • LED TURNS ON
  • FAN TURNS ON

Fix:

  1. When you get to the main board, remove the heat sink screws and pull it upwards gently then you can locate the IPL chip
  2. Apply flux on all connections and resolder every pin by heating it up with the soldering iron be sure to clean after you finish with isopropyl alcohol

Step 5: Reassemble and Test

Test your console by just connecting it and see if it comes to life, in this case, the indigo Gamecube had no video, no audio, led turns on and fan turns on, problem but by just resoldering the IPL chip it's good as new.

Hope you can revive your Gamecube and thanks for reading!
