Introduction: Generating Electricity by Walking(from Footwears)

Inspired by ASCAS, I made electricity generator by walking with the help of piezo electric element as i wanted to understand working of it.

you can charge your mobile phone while walking as it produces enough voltage of around 5v.

Step 1: Gather Materials

1. Piezo elements/transducers

2. 470uF Capacitor

3. 1N4007X4 Diodes

4. 5v step up converter

5. Duct Tape(To adhere piezo element on footwears)

Step 2: Working of Piezo Elements

Piezo elements come in handy when you need to detect vibration or a knock. You can use these for tap or knock sensors pretty easily by reading the voltage on the output. They can also be used for a very small audio transducer such as a buzzer.

If we apply pressure and release, the the charges between the elements collide and electric field is produced in it. The electric potential is created and thus we get energy!

Voltage generated by a piezo element: 4-6v

Step 3: Creating the Circuit!

Here presented circuit makes the voltage from piezo element suitable for mobile, mp3 player, etc.

Firstly rectifier circuit is there which converts the voltage of piezo element to DC Voltage. Then 5v step up converter is attached parallel to capacitor. The output got from 5v step up converter is suitable for mobile charging.

Step 4: The Final Step!

Now just affix the piezo element to footwear and then, your hardware is ready to charge your mobile, mp3 player or tablet.
