Introduction: Geometric Plant Holder, Intro

Today I will be teaching you how to make a geometric plant holder, and at the end of this guideline you should have your very own Geometric Plant Holder. Please look at the item you need below.

Supplies

A sheet of Polypropylene.

You should have Polypropylene and not a high impact Polystyrene because high impact Polystyrene is more rigid and more prone to cracking, while polypropylene will give you flexibility and it's easier for scoring.

A cutter knife

Pigment pen(A dark color)

Clear tape

Cutting board(optional)

30°degree set square

Safety cutting ruler

Plaster dust

Water

Spatula

400 grit paper

Step 1: Making You Blue Print for Your Plant Plot

Equipment for this step:

Polypropylene

Pigment Pen

30°degree set square

Clear tape

Extra tip: use the edge of the Polypropylene to help you make 2 parallel line, this ensures that you a least have one straight line and this also saves material. All of these steps that include making a shape or line should be done with a pigment pen.

Step 1. Tape all sides of the Polypropylene on a flat surface, and test if it can still wiggle by pushing around the surface, if it can, add some more tape on all side.

Step 2. The dimension of each triangle is 9:10 cm. 9cm is the high and 10cm is the width. So draw a parallel line which is apart by 9cm. You will be using your set of square to make a triangle, mark 10cm one one side of the parallel line and also mark middle which is 5cm. Draw up the 5cm in a 90° angle towards the other parallel line. Join up all the side with a ruler, to make a triangle. Remember use the photo as reference.

Step 3. You will need to draw 3 more triangle one bother side of the parallel line connecting together, ending up in a rhombus. Please use the the photo as reference first, if it's end shape is not a rhombus your doing it wrong!!!

Step 4. You will need to draw 1 more triangle that is equilateral triangle, each side should be 9cm , the total perimeter should be 27cm. This should be on top or bottom of the rhombus and not on the sides. Use your 30° set square to help you make it. Use the other triangle base that have been drawn out by you already. Put your shortest side of the triangle on the triangle base, the tip 30°of the set square should be at the corner of the other triangle. Draw a line until the 9cm mark, do this again on the other corner of the triangle. This should make a triangle and also use the photo as reference, you can draw this anywhere as long as it's on the top or bottom of the rhombus.

Step 2: Cutting Out Your Blue Print

Material:

Cutter

Cutting Board

Safety Cutting Ruler

Your previous piece of Polypropylene

Step 1. Make sure all of your side is taped, if not re-tape it, this is recommended since Polypropylene is really slippery and does not sit well on any surface.

Step 2. You will be cutting around the piece that you marked out, so it will result in a shape somewhat like in the photo.

Step 3. Hold down the ruler firmly so it doesn't slip (recommend to stand up), and cut out down on to the perimeter of the shape, this is up to you how you want to cut it because some people have different opinion on how to cut and which is easiest for them to cut.

Step 4. Compare it with the picture, there should be 7 triangle, compromising of 6 forming the rhombus and 1 equilateral triangle in the top or bottom of it.

Step 3: Scoring the Blue Print

Material:
Cutter

Cutting Board

Safety Cutting Ruler

Your previous piece of Polypropylene

Step 1. If you have any spare piece of Polypropylene try to gently score over it with the a help of a ruler, try this and practice until your can score the Polypropylene and surely score, if you are unable to do this go to step 3.

Step 2. Very carefully and gently score over the lines making up the triangle, look at the reference photo if you're confuse where to score, the yellow doted line is where you need to score. Remember your are not cutting it but scoring it, do it gently

Step 3. If you are able to do step 2 you can skip this step but for those who are unable to step 1 and 2 please read this. So assuming that you don't know how to score you will have to tape up all the triangle together making the same shape as the blue print, this will be risky because the plaster may leak out from the hole depending how well you pieced it up together so it is recommended to learn how to score.

Step 4: Bending It Into Shape and Taping It

Material:

Your previous piece of Polypropylene

Clear tape

Step 1. You will now bend every corner towards one direction, this could be towards you or away from, but the end result should be like a cup or a pot.

Step 2. Connect both end of the rhombus together with tape and then tape up the bottom of the triangle, forming a pot.

Need To ReadNote

You will need to figure how to tape it yourself, but a good way of testing would be testing if it could hold water without it leaking, it leaks you should strip all of the tape out and re-tape, if you are unable to make it leak proof just try your best and tape it up, do not tape the inside because this will create tape mark on the plaster, also the edge will not be as sharp.

Step 5: Blue Print and Cutting the Core

Material:

Pigment pen

30°degree set square

Razor blade

Note: all of the drawing should be done with a pigment pen

Step 1. Tape all sides of the Polypropylene sheet

Step 2. Use your Pigment pen and make a 24cm by 7cm rectangle on the Polypropylene, it is recommended to use the corner of the sheet to help make the rectangle. If you mark it every 8cm you should have 3 rectangle which is 8cm by 7cm. You will later have to make an equilateral triangle, making each side is 8cm long. Refer back to step 1 if you forgot how to it. Look at the picture for reference

Step 3. Cut the perimeter of the this shape

Step 6: Scoring, Bending and Taping

Material:

Razor Cuter

Clear tape

Step 1. Score all line inside the shape

Step 2. Bend every score line towards or away from you to form a triangler cup

Step 3. Tape all the sides to form a cup, don't forget to test for leaks with water

Use photo as reference

Step 7: Pouring Plaster

Material:

Spatula

Dry plaster powder

Tape

All your body's

Step 1. This depend on which kind of plaster you use, you should find this out yourself at the back of you plaster bag or ask the seller, but the formula I use is 3 yogurt cup plaster and 2 yogurt cup of water. So in total it around 5 cup of yogurt

Step 2. I prefer to pour to the water in first, but it's up to you, quickly mix it, it should look like corn starch mix with water, it should be very dense, if it's not dense enough, you can add more plaster.

Step 3. Pour it in the first body we made, you will later pour in the plaster 3/4 way full. The way you put in the triangle should be as if you putting a puzzle in hole but you will need to make the triangle the center of the body. If you don't understand, there is only one to put it in so if you're putting in the wrong way it would result in it not being able to fit. Make sure the solid triangle is going down. If this does not make it full add some more plaster until it's full.

Step 4. Make it center with tape, it should be like pulling a rope, both side of the tape needs to be taut.

Step 5. Wait for an 1hour or so or refer back to you plaster manual

Step 8: Pulling Plaster Out

Material:

Razor blade

400 grit paper

Step 1. Use the razor blade to carefully cut the tape of the body outside, do not pull the pot out because it could be damage

Step 2. After your done with pulling the pot out of it's cast, carefully pull it's core out, if you did not tape it well enough, you would not be able pull it out, and see plaster leek in, sadly this is unsolvable so you need to make a new one and restart the from making the core all over again, but the if cast is still reusable you can use.

Step 3. Sanding, get a 400 grit paper, and scrape off the excess that you don't want, you can get other grit paper to make it smoother, that however is your choice.

I hope you enjoy you end product

Step 9: I Don't Know How to Delete This Step :(
