Introduction: Giant Paper Flower

About: Hi Everyone! I'm an individual who easily gets inspired to explore, discover, and create. I am very intrigued to learn and teach. Please take the time to check out my YouTube Channel!

Here's a tutorial showing how to create beautiful large giant paper flowers. These decorative paper flowers can provide an elegant look or a dramatic flare to any occasion, whether it be a wedding or a birthday party. With a few simple steps and dedication you can create these beauties in no time!

Step 1: REQUIRED MATERIALS

To begin this paper project you will require the following materials...

Cardstocks (desired colour)

Paper flower cut-out (free samples could be found online or free hand)

Pencil/Eraser

Scissor

Hot Glue Gun

Decorative centre pieces

Step 2: Getting Started

Using the flower petal templates (found online or drawn free hand) trace onto the coloured cardstock of choice. Remember to trace and cutout 1 large centre piece pattern, 7 small petals, and 6 large petals. Once, the petals have been cutout, use a pencil to create a crease on the edge of the petals (inward or outward as preferred).

Step 3: Constructing the Flower

Next, cut a small slit in the middle of each petal (1-3cm). Using the hot glue gun, adhere the slit together. This will create a 3 dimensional look.

Step 4: Assembling

At this point, adhere a strip of glue to the back of each individual petals and stick it to the centre piece of the petal. Remember to glue the large petals first, followed by the smaller petals (which should be glued on the inner edge of the large petals). Kindly note, it is probably a good idea to space out and organize the petals prior to adhering the glue (taking this extra step, will allow you to know if more petals are required to create a fuller flower or if less petals are needed).

Step 5: Completion

The final and last step is to add a decorative piece in the centre of the paper flower. Here I have used a decorative gift bow, but you can opt for any other decorative item. All that is left to do now, is decorate and admire these gorgeous flowers! They truly are a beauty.

Please don't FORGET to watch the embedded video for more detailed instructions.

Thank you!

I love this idea so much that I would want to make permanent bouquets to decorate a room with instead of just for a 1 day party or a holiday season, but do you know of a company that sells fade resistant card stock & where it is sold (online or a US store)? I get a few hours of bright sun in my room almost everyday. I don't expect it to last 5 years, but I've seen some pricy cardstock & a large swag would take time to make, so I'd rather have to get rid of it when it becomes impossible to get the dust off instead of how kids Christmas paper decorations are faded before January. Thanks!

    Hello Truthis1,

Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any comet that sells fade resistant card stock (you may want to search online to see if there are any protective spray you may apply to the card stock to resist from fading). Another, alternative maybe to hang the paper flowers on a side of the wall where the sunlight doesn't hit as much (just a thought). You could also check out your local Micheals Arts and Craft store for more ideas regarding this matter. Hope this helps and would love to see your take on these giant paper flowers!
