I've found a PMMA pipe in the basement so what to do with such a expensive piece .

One idea was to create a lamp out of the transparent pipe. So I've started to think about the possibilities.

The result is a decorative lamp out of glass gravel.

Step 1: The First Prototype

I don't have any photo from the prototype but I had to rebuild it due to of temperature problems. But it was quite nice to look at.

Step 2: PMMA Pipe Assembly

[The ground plate only contain two circular grooves and a hole for the cable, so nothing special]

For the pipe I've decided to apply a bayonet, this way it is possible to assemble and disassemble the lamp quite easy. Furthermore it is a nice way to get rid of ugly looking connections.

Step 3: The Inner Pipe Section

The inner pipe is based on a seamlessly welded pipe for ovens (118mm diameter).

The overall hight of the lamp is about 50cm.

Step 4: Glue on the LEDs

The LEDs are quite standard LED stripes. Ive used IP67 rated stripes the reason is quite simple, I have enough of them...

Furthermore I've applied a old fly net on top of the inner pipe.

Step 5: Turn on the Light (test the LEDs)

The power supply is from an old laptop and located in the inner tube. Also here nothing special in view of the electric.

Step 6: Add the Glass Gravel

Simply add the glass gravel between the two tubes. The gravel doesn't need special treatment but I've washed it because of reasons ;-)
