Introduction: Gourmet Cheesy Blasters
Now that we got the introduction out of the way, These are my take on Cheesy Blasters. The sauce is improved as well as the cheese. The cheese is ACTUALLY stuffed INTO the hot dogs! So go ahead and make some for yourself or others!
Step 1: Supplies
First we need to assemble what we'll be using.
-A pack of hot dogs
-3 Table spoons of butter
-3 Table spoons of flour
-1.5 Cups of milk
-2 Cups of grated jack cheese
-1 Cup of Marinara sauce
-1/2 an Onion
-3 Garlic cloves
-2 Bay leaves
-2 Table spoons of Italian seasoning mix
-1 Table spoon of dried basil
-3 squirts of red wine
-Pillsbury pre-made pizza dough
-Olive oil (not pictured)
-A splatter shield (tomato sauce starts flying out of the pan when cooked)
-Non-stick cookie sheet
-A pair of Chopsticks
Step 2: First You Take a Hot Dog...
First you take a Hot dog!
Then you take the skewer and pierce all the way through the hot dog (Kind of like a corn dog). Then take the straw and using the skewer as a guide, pass it through the length of the hot dog to hollow out. This created a great pocket to hold our CHEESE!
I tried to do this without the skewer but the straw would always bend half way through and break the hot dog.
once it is hollowed out, cut halfway through the hot dog (length wise) to open it up.
Repeat with the rest of your pack of hot dogs.
if you don't bother hollowing the hot dog out, then once you close the hot dog, the cheese will ooze out every wear leaving you with a Cheesy-less blaster!
Step 3: Stuff It With Some Jack Cheese...
Now it's time for the filling!
-Start by placing 3 table spoons of butter in a sauce pan and melt it.
-Then slowly stir in the flour one table spoon at a time. Doing it too fast makes flour clumps.
-Once it all mixed evenly, pour about 1/4 of a cup of milk into the pan and stir until the entire mixture is even.
-Go ahead and mix in the rest of the milk after that.
-Constantly mix until the mixture thickens (about 3 minutes)
-Start mixing in about half a handful of the cheese at a time. wait until that melts into the rest of the mixture before adding the next handful. Keep doing this until you've used up all 2 cups.
-Salt and pepper to taste.
Stuffing the hot dog:
-Let the mixture cool so it's easy to work with.
-Pour the mixture into the plastic bag and cut a small hole in the tip of the bag.
-Use this to easily stuff the filling into the cavity we've made in the hot dogs.
Step 4: Roll It in a Pizza...
Now it's time to make the pizza portion!
I always hated biting into a pizza and the Marinara sauce was just...bleh! This is why I will be using store bought sauce but flavoring it up to a whole new level!
-Dice up the onion nice and small
-Sauté the onion in the sauce pan over medium heat with some olive oil until it is golden brown (Make sure to clean out the cheese. I poured my extra cheese into a pickle jar for later use)
-Once it is nice and golden brown, dice up the garlic cloves and throw it into the pan as well (adding it with the onion at the same time will burn the garlic...YUCK)
-Next, add the 3 splashes of wine. STAND BACK as the alcohol will evaporate. Breathing in the steam that comes out might get you inebriated!
-Slowly pour in the cup of Marinara sauce. Not to fast or it will splatter!
-Mix in the bay leaves, basil, and Italian seasonings and place the splatter shield.
-Let it cook over medium heat for about 8 Minutes. (Make sure to move it around every so often or it will burn to the bottom)
-Salt and pepper to taste
-Pre-heat the oven to 425*F
-Flour the table you are working on along with your rolling pin and your hands
-Open the dough tube (be prepared for it to pop if it is your first time opening it!)
-Divide it into the number of hot dogs in your pack (Usually 8)
-Role out the dough pieces into mini rectangles. (If the dough snaps back into place, then it's still to cold. let it heat up for a while)
-Spoon in about a tablespoon of sauce into the dough
-Spread it around but make sure you leave one edge unsauced! (This will be the part we use to seal the Cheesy Blaster shut)
-Place the Hot dog in the center, and role the pizza around it just like a pig-in-a-blanket
-Pinch it together with the clean edge on the outside. This makes it less messy.
-Spray the cookie sheet with non-stick spray so the Cheesy Blasters come off easier
-Place the Cheesy Blasters pinched-side-down on the sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes or until the dough is golden brown.
-For extra Cheesy-ness, you could always top the Cheesy Blasters with more cheese!
Step 5: You've Got Cheesy Blasters!!!
All done! Now you have one of Liz Lemon's favorite treat! But one question...How does one eat Cheesy Blasters? Well it would be impossible to eat them without...CHOPSTICKS! That's right! Eating Cheesy Blasters with chopsticks is AS important as the actual recipe itself! Don't believe me? See for yourself! Any fan of the show will know the proper way to eat them (although it may be difficult at first).
I hope you enjoyed this instructable, and more importantly, I hope you enjoy the Cheesy Blasters!
So go out, make some Cheesy Blasters, and thank meat cat before he flies away on his skateboard!
