Introduction: Greenhouse From Recycled Fence and Windows

About: I have a youtube channel and a Etsy shop I sell the things i make i also do craft shows and stuff like that. i am documenting my journey to help people do it yourself so steal my ideas and make some money!!

I wanted a greenhouse that would vent well I live in the lovely state of North Carolina and it gets warm in the summer. So we all know heat rises right so I want the vent to be high as possible. I found this plan on https://www.buildeazy.com/greenhouse/ paid the 5$ for the plans and used them pretty much just for the roof framing and went my own way after that.

Supplies

Material from this project was mainly a recycled fence. i did have to purchase some lumber for the longer spans but was pretty proud of all the material i was able to reuse. Found a door on marketplace for free the windows where 10$ for all 4.

tools was mostly hand tools cordless drill and circular saw did most of the work i brought out the nail gun to speed things up.

Step 1: Base

Every good structure starts with a good base i cleared the ground and made a flat spot to fit the greenhouse on

Step 2: Build the Frame

this green house is built with wood frame construction. so this part right here if i had to do it over again i would have spaced the studs the width of the polycarbonate roofing so i would not have to do as many cuts. i used the left over roofing to fill in the spaces around the windows to maximize the sun. i did 5 foot tall walls you can go taller if you want but this work perfect for me

Step 3: Roof Trusses

all the angles on these are 60 and 30 degree angles

Step 4: Add Doors and Windows

so here i pre built the walls in my garage and moved it to the back. i didn't really plan for the windows very well but it was an easy fix i just winged it on the locations and every window will be different so i removed some studs and then cut 2x4s to the bottom height of the window then put a brace between and then added a little gap to make the window move freely so i could add hinges later to allow the windows to open out word to allow better ventilation. i put a screen shot on the proper way to do this.

Step 5: Add Roofing

i used Lowes polycarbonate roofing this was the most expensive part of the project i used 6 8 foot pieces to complete this project

Step 6: Siding

i covered the bottom half of the green house with fence boards painted white to appease the HOA

Step 7: Inside

for the inside i used painters plastic to fill any large gaps and also used great stuff to fill in all the small gaps.

once that was complete i covered the wood area with more platic using a staple gun to just clean it up and make sure it was sealed good

i then used more recycled lumber and made benches

i drilled holes in the rafters to put piping so i could hang plants

Step 8: Pergolas

Step 9: Light It Up!!

added a string of white Christmas lights to allow us to use it at night. we use this as a bar for our fire pit!

Step 10: Venting Windows

here is the coolest feature in the greenhouse these are so cool highly recommend it!
