Hand-Made Extension for My Grill Scraper

I had a wire grill brush with a six inch handle and I kept burning my hand. I had two options. Spend four dollars to buy a new brush with a longer handle or spend 90 minutes building my own. You can guess which path I chose. To do this project you will need these materials:

• one-inch dowel
• two bolts, nuts, lock washers
• Paracord
• 2P10 adhesive or epoxy
• a short-handled wire brush
• boiled linseed oil
• rag for linseed oil

You will be using these tools:

• Band saw or coping saw
• drill or drill press with bits
• sandpaper 120 grit
• grinder or hacksaw

Step 1: Cut the Slot in the Dowel to Receive the Short Handle

1. Decide how long you want your dowel handle to be and cut it at that length
2. Using the band saw or coping saw cut a slot in the dowel to receive the handle
3. Drill holes thru the dowel and handle and pass the bolts thru securing them with the lock washer and nuts.
4. cut the nuts off flush with the grinder or hacksaw.

Step 2: Wrap the Handle With Paracord.

• this is optional but makes it look better.
• use 2P10 or Epoxy to fix the position of the Paracord and tightly wind it around the handle. Don't get too close to the scraper because the heat will melt your Paracord when you use it.
• use 2p10 to fix the finished position of the Paracord.

Step 3: Finish the Handle With Lindseed Oil

1. Use Linseed Oil or your choice of finishes on the handle.
2. This too is optional but especially for an outdoor project, it helps protect the wood.
