Grippy Work Holders !

Build these super effective grippy work holders ! also know as bench cookies

It makes for an incredibly useful tool whilst it does move a little when using a finishing orbital sander on worktop surface it grips really well when using the random orbit sander, circular saw and the router it holds it firmly in place and lifts it up of the workbench so you can concentrate on the work.

Step 1: Cut Your Wood

I made two 2.5" long and two 5" long you could make as many ask you want.

A slot is cut with the tablesaw about 18mm 3/4 " deep and the same measurement from each side.

Step 2: Grippy Stuff

Get yourself some non slip matting it should be available locally, there are no exact measurements just cut a bit more than you need and make sure it fits in the slots we cut earlier.

use the back of a knife or a ruler to push the matting into place.

Step 3: Test It Out !

Well, now, that is a good one!! This is excellent idea, an invention!!

I will do a pair, I'm thinking to use this material that they normally use to hold the plates on the table.

Actually, a few days ago I noticed that my beloved worktools shop also sells sheets of rubber, of various thickness.

Brilliant. And I have that exact material on my workbench... of course I also have a set of bench cookies, but these will make a fine addition to my workshop!

You might consider using rubber spline, the stuff that is used in
Aluminum screens, to hold the non slip matting in the groves. A tool to
press the spline into the grove is available.

probably wont last and there isnt room for hot glue as the space is taken up from the material, nice idea though thanks austin !

I think if the work table surface is just slightly rough it would prevent whatever little movement you have. I don't do a lot of DIY work but it is always a pain to keep the workpiece from moving. Will most certainly make it. Thanks for the great idea.
