Introduction: Guinea Pig Spiderman Costume

This Halloween, my guinea pig is dressing up as Spider-Man! šŸ•øļøšŸ¹ I wanted something simple, safe, and comfortable that would still look festive, so I made a costume using felt, scissors, and a few easy steps. In this Instructable, I’ll show you how to make your own version so your guinea pig can join in the holiday fun!!

Since I put this together on a bit of a time crunch, a lot of this project was trial and error for me. But after finding what worked best for me and my pet, I put together some steps to show how we did it! Some of the instructions may not be the clearest or most detailed as every pet is a little different, so feel free to adjust measurements, shapes, or materials to fit your own guinea pig. This Instructable is more of a guide than a strict set of directions—but it should give you a fun starting point to make your pet’s Halloween extra special.

Supplies

To make this costume for your guinea pigs, you will need;

a large piece of red felt

scissors

some type of black pen or marker

some kind of blue paint (I used a paint marker but you can use whatever kind of paint you'd like)

super glue or hot glue

a button

needle and thread

a measuring tape

and of course, a guinea pig!!

Step 1:

Start by measuring your guinea pig. Measure the circumference of their neck and torso (measure loosely), and measure the length from neck to end.

Step 2:

using the length of your guinea pig, measure on your felt how long the costume should be and mark it with your pen. Draw an oval like shape on the felt that is the same length as your guinea pig (this will be the main body piece of the costume). Then, divide the circumference of their neck in. On the top of your oval, draw two rectangle ā€œstrapsā€ sticking out—each strap should be as long as half the neck measurement.(ex. if your guinea pigs neck is four inches, you should make two 2inch pieces stick out)

Step 3:

cut it out

Step 4:

using your posca or blue paint, draw to rectangles on the bottom sides. then, at the top draw two lines on the side

Step 5:

using a sharpie, draw verticle lines from the top of the costume to the bottom. at the top center draw a spider!

Step 6:

draw U shapes in between each line. use this pattern for reference!

Step 7:

glue on two rectangular pieces on the sides. these will be your stomach straps. than, using your glue connect the two top pieces to form a circle.

Step 8:

with your needle and thread, sew a button of your choice to one side of your stomach straps. on the other side, cut a slit for the button to go through

Step 9:

try it on!!
