Introduction: HIDING PIES IN a PI PIE

This is an easy-to-do approach to a traditional beef pie with some asian ingredients, coming together to create an awesome flavour pie with a funny pi twist.

Supplies

The pie crust:

- You can make your own dough, or buy a pre-made one (we won’t judge).

- 1 egg.

The Filling :

- A happy bunch of ground beef meat

- One nice leek

- A couple carrots

- 2 garlic cloves

- A handful of fresh Shiitake mushrooms

- Salt

- Pepper

- Rice Wine

- Worcestershire sauce

- Olive oil.

- Dark Soy Sauce

Step 1: COOK THE FILLING

Chop your veggies (carrots, leek, mushrooms, garlic) and fry them in olive oil (a couple tablespoons should be OK) at medium-high.

Keep your veggies moving, we don’t want them to get black!

About two minutes later add the meat into the mix, and keep everything moving in your pan!

Then add Worcestershire and Soy sauce (not too much, we don’t want this too salty!) . And add some rice wine, also. Keep it fun!

You can see when it’s cooked, or you can taste some to be sure. Oh! And add salt and pepper as you like!

Now let it cool down.

Step 2: PREPARING THE DOUGH

While the filling is cooling down, prepare your circle shaped dough base inside a mold. A circle mold is needed in order to have all this madness have something to do with number Pi.

Take it to the oven and bake it nice and golden, but not too much!

If you bought your dough, everything about oven time and temperature instructions should be explained in the label. If you made your own, you are so brave and you already know those things.

Step 3: TOP & DECORATION

Of course, you need another circle dough for the top.

And now you cut the funny decoration, and it’s all about PI!

First thing is a footprint. See, the spanish word "PIE" means foot. Yes, sillyness is not optional here!

Also, you make some dough letters, for the funny reflection effect.

A little tricky shape, but it’s worthwhile!

AWESOME!

Step 4: FULLFILLING THE CIRCLE

Take your perfect golden molded base from the oven, fill it with your veggies and beef cold mix, and cover with the lid on top.

Brush the pastry with a beaten egg. You can use white, yolk, or both. Enjoy that little freedom!

Now fix your decoration dough on top.

Use some dark soy sauce to darken the footprint and letters. Contrast is key.

And brush it whith beaten egg (freedom again!).

Step 5: BAKE IT!!!!

You know how to do it, you did it before.

Just don’t overbake it, keep the shiny contrast like the picture!

Step 6: NOW FOR THE MAGIC

Place your PI PIE in front of a mirror. Can you read number pi in the reflection ?

Also, you can bake a second pie, with mirrored decoration, if you don’t own a mirror.

And the final question is... How many pies are in your pi pie? Use your imagination to hide more pies in your pi pie!
