HOW TO INK YOUR ARTWORKS - Drawing Tutorial for Beginners

In this tutorial I will show you three basic techniques for inking your drawings.

Step 1: Materials Needed

You will need:

Pigment fineliners (various sizes), dip pen, brushes, indian ink, and paper (at least 90 gsm. You can also use card stock or watercolor paper).

Step 2: 1) Fineliners

The first technique is inking with fineliners. First of all we clean the sketch using a kneaded eraser.

We ink starting with the finer pen, and then adding details with wider pens.

Add shadows with crosshatching.

Erase pencil strokes once the ink is completely dried.

Step 3: 2) Dip Pen

Dip the nib as shown in the picture and outline your drawing.

Jump from an area to another to let the ink dry.

Make shadows with crosshatching and cover empty spots with a brush.

Correct errors with white ink or white gel pens, they are also useful to make reflections.

Erase pencil once ink dried.

Step 4: 3) Brush

Use a fine brush dipped in the ink to outline the drawing.

The lines will be very different depending on the pressure applied on the brush.

Once the ink dried, dilute ink with water and add shadows and skin tone.

Erase the pencil once ink dried :)
