Hi Friends, Today I have something new for all of you, Its dinosaur pen holder which is also a puzzle article. In the DP you can see a TRICERATOPS DINOSAUR carrying all your stationery Lol!!. First I thought of making some fancy pen holder with card board after getting informed of the contest, then something interesting happened in my mind, I got an idea of making a pen holder which is something SPECIAL !!. The speciality of this article is, It looks cute, on your table and also there is something special hidden in this stuff like if you get bored or sleepy in office, school or where ever it is then you can dismember this dinosaur pen holder and start playing the puzzle to make yourself active ha ha !! XD. Along with that it is strong enough to hold all your pens and all other stuffs. white cement gives it additional strength and perfect fit boundaries for each skeleton units.I have uploaded high quality pictures of each and every step so that everyone can easily understand my article. I made this article in two parts one is Triceratops part and another one is pen holder part. I had used tools and material which are available at everyone's home. Please follow the picture for help!. Forgive me if there is any grammatical mistakes. If you really like this article please don't forget to hit like also please support me by voting!!.

Step 1: THINGS REQUIRED

TOOLS AND MATERIALS THAT I USED

  • CORRUGATED CARDBOARD (TYPE: SINGLE WALL)
  • PAPERS
  • PENCIL
  • WHITE GLUE
  • DROPPER BOTTLE
  • WHITE CEMENT
  • CUTTER/KNIFE
  • SCISSOR
  • RULER

In the first image dropper bottle is already filled with white cement mixture. To make white cement mixture mix white cement and water in 2:1 ratio and stir them well also add some white glue (10%). If necessary add some more white cement till mixture is free of lumps and has a smooth consistency. Now pour them in dropper bottle. The reason for I used dropper bottle is for easy application of white cement on the corrugated medium of boundary of each units.

I have uploaded the template for making this dinosaur pen holder. It is a Triceratops. Why I chose this dinosaur because I felt that if I make a pen holder from this structure/design it was able to hold all necessary stationery articles of your table like pen, pencil, stapler, eraser, etc. that is its engineering is best to hold pen-holder that we use in our day to day life.

Step 2: CUT OUT THE SKELETON UNITS

Take a print out of the template that I uploaded in this instructable of your desired size around 62*36 cm which is the dimension of the template printout that I used. Please do not take too small(Its difficult to cut skeleton units) or too big sized template (Article looses its beauty!).

After taking the print out, cut them into each bone units using scissor.

Now paste them lightly on cardboard using glue (partially) so that you can remove it later!. while applying glue please follow that glue must be applied on the DOTTED surface of the paper-bone unit and stuck on the ROUGH surface of cardboard to avoid confusion between left and right parts!. Follow the picture for help!.

Now using cutter cut out each skeleton units. I cut each individual pieces using cutter because I got more precise pieces when I did a trial, Yeah I agree that it took a lot of my time but the positive thing is I learned PATIENCE !. I do not recommend using scissors because they crush the edges while the cut but of-course you can use it to smoothen the edges of each skeleton unit after transferring them into cardboard from paper as shown in the picture . I have pictured cutting out of hind legs of Triceratops.

Similarly cut down all the skeleton units using cutter. Yeah it requires patience!.

After cutting out, peel off the paper from back of the cardboard.

Step 3: SKELETON UNITS

After cutting out all the skeleton units from cardboard.

Step 4: CLOSE THE CORRUGATED EDGES USING WHITE CEMENT

Squeeze the dropper bottle filled with white cement on the corrugated edges of cardboard so as to make them clean, scatter free edges and stiffer. Apply white cement mixture to the boundaries of all skeleton units.

Watch the video to apply white cement mixture easily. Pardon me because my university has blocked youtube thats why I have uploaded this video instead of embedding it.

Step 5: MAKE THE SLOT FOR a PERFECT FIT

As you see, I did not cut the slots earlier so as to avoid misfits.

After cutting down them into individual pieces I cut slots as marked in the template. Slot size should be compatible to fix between the skeleton units. You can check fixation every time you make a slot else cut all slots using same measurement based on the thickness of the cardboard that you are using.

Step 6: SOLVE THE PUZZLE

I have linked the slots using the numbers as shown in the picture, you can easily solve TRICERATOPS DINOSAUR puzzle with the above picture.

Yeah even without the hint you can solve the puzzle because YOU MADE IT DUDE !!!

Step 7: PEN HOLDER

Measure the distance between 3rd rib and 5th up of tail (It came around 12 cm) also measure its breadth (which came around 8 cm).Now cut down cardboard with those measurements.

Cut down small rectangular pieces as shown in the picture (two pieces adjacent to each other on left and right of BASE cardboard) it is for holding the pen holder on triceratops. And also make rectangular sides based on the measurement. Make slots for fixing them. All procedures are similar to the steps followed in the making of skeleton units!.

Now fix them as shown in the picture.

After fixing the holder into a rectangular open box. Attach those L holders then attach the entire pen holder on Triceratops !.

Step 8: TRICERATOPS PEN HOLDER PUZZLE

VOILA! YOU ARE DONE!!

NOW YOU CAN PLACE THIS CUTE LITTLE DINOSAUR ON YOUR TABLE.

I HAD A LOT OF FUN MAKING THIS PIECE DESPITE ITS CHALLENGES. THIS IS MY FIRST INTRUCTABLE FROM WHICH I LEARNED PATIENCE. I HOPE YOU DO TOO.
