Introduction: HOW TO TURN a WINE BOTTLE IN TO a NIGHT LIGHT

Turning a wine bottle in to a night light is a fun project to do.  It is easy and affordable and can be completed in a short period of time.

Step 1: ITEMS NEEDED

Items you will need for this project:

1. Drill
2. Glass drill bit.
3. White vineager or rubbing alcohol.
4. Dust free rag.
5. Acrylic enamel paint.
6. A tool to make polka dots with.
7.  A strand of 20 lights that do not have an extension connection.
8. Lampshade.
9. Oven (optional)

Step 2: DRILL HOLE

Use your drill and the glass bit to drill a 1/4" hole toward the bottom of the bottle.

Step 3: CLEAN THE BOTTLE

Use your rubbin alchol or white wine vineager  and dust free rag to clean off your bottle.

Step 4: PLACE PAINT COLORS ON PLATE

At this time you will need to choose your paint colors.  Place a little of each color on to your glass plate.

Step 5: APPLY POLKA DOTS

At this time start with your first color.  Dip your tool in to the paint and apply to the glass in a straight pounce method.  Slowly remove the applicator to make sure a complete circle of paint was left behind.

Step 6: CONTINUE APPLYING PAINT

Continue applying the paint until you have used all of the colors on your plate.

Step 7: BAKE

Allow your piece to air dry for one hour.  Place the bottle in a cool oven.  Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.  Your piece should be allowed to bake for 30 minutes.  Add your preheat time to this.  Allow the bottle to completely cool before removing from the oven.

Step 8: ADD LIGHTS

Start at the opposite end from the plug.  Place one light bulb at a time through the hole at the bottom of the bottle.  I recommend holding the bottle upside down to encourage the lights to fill the entire bottle including toward the top.  Continue this process until all of the lights have been added.

Step 9: LIGHTS HAVE BEEN INSTALLED

Once all of the lights have been installed you can either leave the hole open where the cord is coming out, or place a rubber ring around the cord and place in to the opening.  This will stablize the cord.

Step 10: PLUG IN

Plug in the lights and give it a try.

Step 11: ADD LAMPSHADE

Now it is time to complete the night light by adding the lampshade to your bottle.  You may either add it directly to the glass part of the top of the bottle, or if it does not fit tight enough add a small light bulb to the top to help steady it.

You are finished!

Using a grommet to protect that power cord is an absolute must. It would be a real risky notion to not make certain that over time the glass edge does not cut into the cord. It might even cause a fire.
