Introduction: HSTNN L94C Processor Replacement

Make sure that you have your HSTNN L94C laptop ready on a flat surface. Also make sure that you have access to a 2 mm Phillips head screwdriver, a 1.5 mm Flathead screwdriver, and a method of discharging yourself of static electricity as to not damage the internal components.

Step 1: Remove the Battery

Your first step is to ALWAYS remove the battery, even if the laptop is powered off, it is still providing power to the motherboard inside, and it WILL shock you. Push the switch highlighted above, and the battery will pop out. Place the battery aside, as you will not need it until you are ready for reassembly.

Step 2: Removing the Backboard

After your removal of the battery, it is time to get down to business. Your next step will be to remove the backboard that covers the CD drive and the WiFi card. Loosen the highlighted screws with your Phillips head screwdriver, and you can safely remove the board. The screws will stay attached, so do not worry about them.

Step 3: Removing Your Keyboard Part 1

Removing your keyboard is your next step. You will need to remove all screws with a Phillips head that are highlighted in yellow, and place them all in the same pile. The silver crews on the WiFi card should be removed and placed in a separate pile with the WiFi card nearby. After all screws have been removed, the hard drive highlighted in blue can be safely removed, and placed aside. Like the battery, you will not need it until reassembly.

Step 4: Removing the Keyboard Part 2

After removing your hard drive, you will need to turn over your laptop and push the clamps at the highlighted spits with a thin object. You will be able to remove the keyboard by doing this, and there will be additional screws underneath that keep the laptop's keyboard. In the highlighted areas, there is a screw that will need to be removed with a Phillips head screwdriver. After that, the top part of the laptop's case is ready to be removed. After removing this part of the case, you will see the motherboard.

Step 5: Loosening the Motherboard

Your next step will be to unscrew the highlighted screws with a Phillips head screwdriver, and place them all in their own pile. You will need to remove the object highlighted in blue, this is an expansion card connected to the CD drive. Removing it will allow you to move the motherboard. After following the steps describes, you will be able to turn the motherboard onto the monitor, exposing the bottom half. This bottom half contains the processor, and the CPU fan.

Step 6: Extracting the Processor and Fan

Finally, after all of the previous steps, the processor is in view. Take out the screw highlighted in yellow with a Phillips head screwdriver. The screws highlighted in orange can't be fully taken out, but they can be loosened to release the fan and processor. The screw highlighted in beige can be rotated 90 degrees to release the CPU. After these short steps, you have released the CPU and it's fan. Congratulations!

Step 7: Reassembly

Repeat all previous steps in reverse, and your laptop will be back in functioning condition and a changed CPU.
