Intro: Hacking a Lenovo Computer Mouse Custom Color LED

I will show you how to change the color of the LED in any mouse.

STEP 1: Parts

Things you will need.

  1. A mouse you want to change the color of the light. ( I'm uses a Lenovo 45J4888)
  2. This Lenovo mouse needs a T10 security bit. (Got mine from Amazon)
  3. Any color LED you want. (I want a blue light to match my PC)
  4. A computer or any device that uses a mouse.

STEP 2: Tare Down and Replace LED

Open mouse.

find LED.

Find positive and negative of LED.

Remove old LED.

Install new LED.

TEST...

I had to bypass the resistor.

Put it all back together.

Now you have a mouse that matches your PC! :)

A blue led had a forward voltage of 3V or more, a led one has only a fw of 1.4V. This is why you had to bypass the resistor, you will destroy the led or its driver because the resistor limits the over current into the led.

Yes I know I need more voltage to run the blue LED over a red LED. Bypassing the one Resistor is fine on this mouse. This is my forth one I have done. My other 3 are still working great. My first one I did I use every day for the past 3-4 years with out any problems.
