Introduction: Halloween Broom Decoration

A great craft at Halloween is decorating an iconic ‘witches broom.’ The following instructions are a basic guideline. It is a very versatile project that can be made at any skill level, budget, and designs - so your imagination is the limit!

Supplies

Broom, Ribbons, Artificial flowers, Halloween mini signs & picks, Scissors, Glue, Glitter, Spray Paint, Lights

Step 1: Gather Supplies

Items pictured were used to decorate the black/white broom. Whether you choose to add a lot of decorations, or just one item, you will discover that this project will look spectacular both ways!

(Also, a glue gun, E6000, or super glue can also be safely applied with care if using a cinnamon boom such as these)

Step 2: Ribbon

Using craft glue or glue dots, first decorate the handle with ribbons.

Step 3: Decor

Decorations can be placed on top or bottom of handle. Before glueing, I recommend planning your arrangement out first. I prefer to take apart any prearranged ‘picks’ as it makes it easier to place pieces exactly where you wish them to be. Finally, be sure to add glue to each piece before sticking into broom for added strength.

Step 4: Color and Lighting

Optional step. When coloring, spray paint or dipping into a dye solution can be used. For spray painting, Both sides of the broom were painted to achieve a darker color. With the paint still wet, a dusting of glitter was applied. When dry, either hair spray or clear coat spray paint should be used to prevent glitter from coming off. Fairy or other lighting can be attached with glue and battery packs placed under front signs, or on the backside of handle. If glue will not hold battery pack, another option is floral wire or twist ties to anchor.
