Intro: Halloween Countdown Pumpkin

Halloween is just around the corner, so here is a fun craft to count down the days with!

Supplies you'll need:

  • a fake pumpkin
  • chalkboard paint
  • acrylic paint
  • large & small paintbrushes
  • chalk
  • pencil

STEP 1: Paint the Chalkboard Paint On

Use a pencil to sketch an outline of where you want the chalkboard paint. Then, fill this area in with chalkboard paint.

Two coats is best, but be sure to wait an hour between coats.

STEP 2: Add the Lettering and Border

Using the acrylic paint, add a border all the way around the chalkboard paint.

Next, use the pencil to sketch the words "days until Halloween", and fill them in with paint.

If you made any mistakes, use the chalkboard paint to clean up the edges.

STEP 3: That's It!

Once the paint is all dry, you're done!

Use the chalk to write the number of days until Halloween.

Why not a living pumpkin?

You could definitely try using a living pumpkin. I haven't tried it - so I'm not sure how well the "chalkboard" would hold up, and if the pumpkin is outside and it freezes, I think the paint may get ruined.
