Introduction: Hand Carved Wooden Pencil

This is a great project for beginners at wood working like me, it is fun and easy! If I could do it ( I'm 11) anyone can do it.

Step 1: Drawing the Guide Lines

To make this pencil you will need a 1 x 1 x 4 inch block of wood. On the top of the block, draw a hexagon with each side being half an inch. Draw straight lines from the top to the bottom coming off of each corner like you see in the picture.

Step 2: Carving the Sides

Now start carving the block using the guide lines. When you carve each side, make sure that it is flat and that you haven't carved pass the guide lines.

Step 3: Sanding the Sides

When you are done carving the sides, sand them using sandpaper. Sand it until it feels smooth. When you look at the top it should look like a hexagon.

Step 4: Preparing for the Tip

Now that the shape is ready, lets make the tip of the pencil. Mark a dot at the center of one end. Draw a line going around the hexagon from about 3/4 of an inch away from the side with the dot.

Step 5: Carving the Tip

From the line, start carving inward towards the dot. Keep looking at the top and try to keep all the sides even.

Step 6: Finishing the Tip

Keep carving the tip until it is pointy.

Step 7: Adding the Led

Once you have finished the tip, drill a small hole that is about two and a half centimeters long. When you drill the hole, make sure it is just the right size to fit the led. Grab a piece of led that is about three centimeters long. Then carefully insert the led into the hole.

Step 8: Lets Write!
