Introduction: Hand Printed Eco Bag
Easy handmade eco bag with print.
Supplies
- Fabric (cotton, linen or half cotton½ linen). I used thick two thread cotton.
- Threads in fabric color
- Acrylic paints for textile
- Any stamps for printing (kalamkari - wooden block, linocut). I will show the process with my handmade linocut monstera leave stamp and one more option without any stamps.
- Masking tape
- A piece of sponge to apply the paint
Equipment:
- Sewing machine
- Overlock (or you can replace it with a zig-zag line on your sewing machine)
Step 1: Step 1: Cut Out the Details
- Cut out all details: 2 piece of bag, 2 piece of bag handles
Step 2: Step 2: Color Up! (using Stapms)
- Take one bag detail
- Apply arcycil color on the stamp using a sponge
- Make a print on fabric by pressing stamp nicely
Do not forget to place some needless fabric under your bag detail cause the paint may go through.
Let the paint dry for 24 hours. And after iron printed detail without steam and with some fabric above.
P.S. I also make a speed video that you can see how I made a stamp from linoleum using simple carving tools.
Step 3: Step 2: Color Up! (using No Stapms)
- For this option we will need a maskig tape
- Apply the tape in random order on bag detail
- Color each section with acrylic
- Remove the tape carefuly
- You will get a nice colorful pattern
Do not forget to place some needless fabric under your bag detail cause the paint may go through.
Let the paint dry for 24 hours. And after iron printed detail without steam and with some fabric above.
Step 4: Step 3: Stitching Handles Details
- Fold the long cuts of the handles in a half tp the middle as shown in picture. Iron it.
- Then again double down and iron it.
- Make a seam on both sides of handle
Step 5: Step 4: Stitching Bag Details
- Fist stitch bag details from the bottom. And than process the cut with overlock or zig-zag seam.
- Than goes sides of the bag: stitch and process with overlock.
Step 6: Step 5: Handles, Top and Bottom
- Sew the handles to the bag as shown on picture and process the top cut with overlock or zig-zag.
- Measure 2.5 cm from the top and bend the edge inward. Than make two finishing lines on the front side.
- Fold the bottom as showed on picture and make a seam (I measured 5 cm from the top). Than cut needless and process the cut with overlock
