Introduction: Hand Drill From Home Depot 6-in-1 Screwdriver (under $10)
How to make a simple, inexpensive hand drill with parts found at Home Depot. The reasons someone might want to build a hand drill are:
1. Cannot afford a cordless or corded drill, but still need to drill holes and build things.
2. Need to drill quietly because of roommates, sleeping spouse, etc.
3. Necessary to have lightweight, portable drilling capability.
4. Need to hold the wood while you use a hand drill. Traditional hand-cranked drills require 2 hands to use.
5. No access to electricity, ie: an emergency situation or out in the field, but still need to drill
6. Environmentally conscious; uses no electricity
Step 1: Parts From Home Depot
1. Buck Bros. 6-n-1 Screw Driver, SKU # 248887, $2.50
2. Ryobi SpeedLoad Plus 1/8 in. Titanium Drill Bit, SKU # 773939, $3.00
3. Duct tape, SKU # 915147, $4.00
Step 2: Prep the Screwdriver
1. Pull out the metal shaft from the body of the screwdriver
2. Take out the double-headed #1 Phillips-3/16 inch bit
3. Put the metal shaft back into the body, with the #2 Phillips-1/4 inch bit inside the handle
Step 3: Insert the Drill Bit
1. Insert the drill bit into the metal shaft
Step 4: Secure the Bit
1. The drill bit will be a little loose, so use the duct tape to secure the bit to the shaft.
Step 5: Drill
1. Drill in a similar way you would use as a screwdriver.

when using a hand cranked hand drill, I tend to use my chest to push against the material when i need to hold the material aswell.

As good point. However, if one has to drill above or below chest height this could be problematic.
