Introduction: Hanging Flower Basket Stand
This week I made my Sister a Hanging Basket Plant Stand for her Birthday. In this Instructable I will show how I did it. I have also included the video from my Youtube channel.
Step 1: What You Will Need
You will need the following:
1 2" x 4" x 10' long common lumber
1 2" x 6" x 8' long common lumber
Miter Saw
Tape Measure and Pencil
Drill and 1/8" drill bit
16 2 1/2" long Exterior screws
Screw Eye with a 3/4" opening
Stain, Paint, Brushes and rags
Stencil
Hanging Plant
Sandpaper or file
Blue painters tape
Step 2: Cut List
First you will need to cut the 2 x 4 to 2 different lengths.
You will need 2 Pcs 22" long and 2 Pcs 35" long
Then cut the 2 x 6: 1 Pcs 24" long and 1 Pcs 19" long
Step 3: Sand
Sand or file the edges where it chipped out from saw.
Step 4: Stain
I then stain the pieces, using Rust-oleum Kona Stain.
Let the stain set for about 3 minutes, then wipe off the excess.
Allow the parts to dry overnight.
Step 5: Clear Coat
After letting the stain dry overnight, I sprayed a couple coats of Minwax Helmsman Spar Clear Satin Spray Urethane.
Note also let this dry overnight.
Step 6: Paint
I bought a Stencil from Hobby Lobby, used painters tape to secure it to the 19" long 2x6 piece of lumber.
Then I used a pencil to trace the lettering, then took a small paint brush and White craft paint to paint the lettering.
Note pick the best side for painting. Also spray a coat of the clear over the painted Welcome.
Step 7: Assemble the Frame
Now we can assemble the frame of the stand. Take the piece that we painted the Welcome on, place one the the short 2x4's under it and align the 35" long piece even with the top. Then take the drill with the 1/8" drill bit and drill 2 holes in the side and attach with 2 1/2" long screws, do this for both sides.
Then attach the 22" long 2x4's Pieces to the ends as shown in the pictures, do this for all 4 corners.
Step 8: Attach the Base
Now take the 24" long 2x6 piece and align the frame on top, trying to center it as much as possible. Then take the drill with the 1/8" drill bit and drill 4 holes to attach the frame to the base. Then screw in 4 of the 2 1/2" long screws.
Note if you wanted to, you could attach the base from the bottom, to help hiding the screws.
Step 9: Attach the Screw Eye
Now find the center of the bottom of the Welcome part, which is 9 1/2" and make a X. Take the drill with the 1/8" drill bit and drill a hole. This is where we will screw in the Eye Screw. You can start the Eye Screw by hand, but take a screw driver and tighten as shown in the picture.
Step 10: Finish
Now hang the plant up and you are finished. My Sister loved it, Thanks for checking out my Instructable.
