Hanging Jewelry Organizer From Utensil Holder
Intro: Hanging Jewelry Organizer From Utensil Holder
This is probably my favorite DIY I've done so far. It's functional, took some crafty thinking, is totally doable, and will last for quite some time. I'm always looking for new and better ways to organize my jewelry. I've gone from putting them in a plastic grid box from the Container Store, to displaying them in vintage bowls, to storing them in a drawer, but none of these methods really satisfied me. I like being able to see all my jewelry displayed in an organized, uncluttered way. And this little project does just that.
So let's get started....
Supplies:
- 1 wooden utensil holder (I used one from Bed, Bath, and Beyond)
- 4 packs of Small Solid Brass Screw Eyes (5/8 inch)
- 3 packs of Solid Brass Cup Hooks (5/8 inch)
- 1 Picture hanger set
- Measuring tape (optional)
- Pencil
- Hammer
- White Spray Paint

STEP 1: Mark Where Your Screws Will Go
Mark where you want to put your screws. I put two in each column (for necklaces), and as many as I could fit in the smaller horizontal shelves (for earrings). You can use a ruler if you'd like to space them out evenly.
STEP 2: Twist in the Screws
Twist all of the screws into place. This step can be a pain in the butt, so here is what I recommend. Use an ice pick or a bigger screw to start each hole. If your hands are sweaty or shaky, try using a paper towel to get a better grip on the screws as you're twisting. Push down hard so they really go in and go slowly with a steady hand. A glass of wine is recommended. :)
STEP 3: Attach Picture Holder
Attach the picture holder. On the back of your jewelry organizer, twist the two screws in towards the top and evenly spaced out in the center. Secure the wire by twisting it around itself. Cut with pliers.
STEP 4: Spray Paint
Spray paint! Go outside and put newspaper down. Follow the directions on the can and let dry.
STEP 5: Hang & Add Jewelry
All done!

This is awesome! You could even hinge two utensil holders together book-style to double your storage. The tricky part is stud earrings... I really prefer those folds that store-bought cases have to store them, but how to make?

This is ingenious. Why didn't I think of it? Great job!

Your organizer turned out great, good job.
I seem to have a hard time finding this type of utensil holder. But i'm going to keep looking because i'm thinking this method of keeping jewelry would be a great portable way of keeping it all together. What i'm trying to say is my goal at this point in my life is to make everything i own as portable as possible. (i plan on doing an awful lot of traveling around the USA shortly, until i find my forever home). This would work great laid flat in my footlocker while moving around and then just pick up the whole box and hang on a wall. How easy is that?! the only thing is i wish it had a plexiglass cover to protect the jewelry while moving around. I'll have to put on my thinking cap to solve that little detail. :-)

I've been looking for a new, better way to store my baubles. I think I'm going to try this! I had been contemplating a long horizontal wire for earrings, but I like the eye hooks and might try those instead.
Also, bamboo is so pretty, so I'm gonna shop around to see if there are any nickel or gunmetal hooks (I know they make white ones) that will complement the bare wood.
Again, great project!!

It would scale-up beautifully using a printers type tray - but this is really nice, as well.
I could easily see something like this engineered for chaps as well, with hooks for watches and bracelets, little areas for cufflinks, etc.
