Sometimes, it gets tedious trying to rummage through kitchen drawers while cooking in hopes of finding the right utensil quickly and easily. If you were looking for an alternative solution to this problem, then look no further! I have made a device that can story utensils above your cooking area by hanging them on hooks! This project is designed to solve a common issue and apply knowledge for my engineering class.

Supplies

Bandsaw
Sander
Glow Forge Laser Engraver
Wood glue

Materials:

Standard quarter inch plywood
Balsa plywood 1/8 inch thick
Velcro Straps

Step 1: Designed and Making the Hooks

Use Onshape software online in order to create the design for the hooks, as you're going to make them via the Glow Forge. After it's done, you will need to make your Onshape file an "svg" file in order for it to work in the Glow Forge.

Step 2: Cutting the Wood for the Main Part

Use the parameters on the drawing/outline of my project that are shown on the pictures of my paper to cut your wood with the bandsaw. Once all of the cutting is done, you should end up with 8 pieces of wood not including the hooks as shown in one of the pictures above. You should have enough to make 2 copies of the main body part. You have the option of using a sander, like I did, to smooth some corners down to make the look sleeker/clean. If you choose to sand, the corners that you choose are totally up to you.

Step 3: Assembly

On the 2 biggest pieces that you cut, use a ruler to make marks at the 1-, 4-, 7-, and 10-inch marks on the ruler. Then, glue all of the hooks on the top of the 2 pieces that you marked in their designated spots. There should be 4 hooks on each of the two pieces that you cut. Glue all of the pieces you cut (not including the hooks) together to make the main body that can be seen above with the two small square going in the corners on both main copies.

Step 4: Finishing Touches

You can paint the finished product anything you'd like. I decided to paint it black. After you've finished painting, attach Velcro strips to the sides of the two finished copies shown in the pictures above. The Velcro straps should be 1 or 2 inches in from each of the edges on the side they are placed on. Then, you're done!
