Hanging Yarn Ball Art
Intro: Hanging Yarn Ball Art
I love these! They look great hanging at different lengths in a corner of a room.
STEP 1: What You Will Need
What You Will Need:
-1 Bottle of Elmer's Glue
-Corn Starch
-Water
-Measuring Cup
- 100% Cotton Yarn - White or Light in Color (Feel free to try any color you want. I chose a lighter color, because I wanted to spray paint mine)
-Fishing Line
-Balloons (preferably medium to large ones)
*If you are doing this project inside you will need a Dollar Store Shower Curtain to help with the mess!
This project will be a bit messy!
Optional:
Spray Paint to add color to yarn balls

STEP 2: Lets Begin
Start by hanging your balloons from the ceiling or on a rope tied between two chairs.
Make sure you do not inflate the balloon to its fullest capacity since you want the balls to be round and not oval.
However, if that is what you are into, go for it!!
Lay your Dollar Store Shower Curtain down. If you are outside you wont need a shower curtainÂ
**Tying a rope between two chairs and hanging the balloons from the rope works a lot easier since you will be making 4-6 small to medium yarn balls**
Vary the sizes of the balloons you are going to wrap.

STEP 3: Now We Will Mix the Paste
Mix:
1/4 Cup of Water
1/2 Cup of Corn Starch
1 Bottle of Elmer's Glue
It should be runny, but not watery

STEP 4: Dip Yarn in Paste
Go back to your balloons.
Begin by getting the yarn wet in the paste.
You can do this by dipping your fingers in the paste and covering the yarn or dipping the yarn in the paste.
Wrap the balloon with the paste soaked yarn until you are satisfied with how it looks
Allow the Balloons to dry for 12 hours or overnight to make sure they are completely dry

Once the yarn balls are dry, pop the balloons and remove them from the yarn balls.
You will have something that looks like this.

STEP 6: Spray Paint the Yarn Balls
You are finished... unless you would like to add a little color to your art!
I took mine outside and spray painted them!
Find some sticks and push them into the ground.
Hang your yarn balls from them and spray away.
These would make pretty sweet lawn art!

Also, for making larger ones, to get a really nice round shape try to find the larger "punch balloons" they blow up perfectly round and are designed to be inflated to 16"
