Introduction: Hanukkah (Chanukah) Menorah
Our house is all lit up for the holidays with Christmas lights. The tree is up and blinking, scented candles are burning, and the eaves along the porch are twinkling a warm welcome. But not everyone lights up their holidays with Christmas lights. Those who celebrate Hanukkah place a menorah in their window and light it over an eight-night period to celebrate the festival of lights. Since I'm into making my own gifts (as are you, I'm sure), I wanted to try my hand at making a menorah (and add it to the Ten Gifts You Can Make Yourself list).
Here are pictures of a nine-candle menorah (the center candle is used to light the other eight) made out of a piece of birch branch. Simple as can be, and a great idea for a Hanukkah gift!
STEPS:
1. Cut a piece of birch branch long enough to fit nine candles.
2. Measure the diameter of your candle and drill nine holes along the birch branch menorah. Don't drill all the way through the branch. And make sure that drill is perfectly perpendicular to the branch!
3. If the holes are a little too big for the candles (as were mine), set the candles in them with hot glue or melted wax.
