Introduction: Happy Birthday Tune Using Circuit Playground

About: I make things, sometimes they break

Here's how to play the Happy Birthday Melody on Adafruit's Arduino Compatible board Circuit Playground.

I needed something small to embed in a box for a birthday box surprise

Step 1: Adding the Code

Copy and Paste this code into the Arduino IDE then name the file cpBirthday

/*
Happy Birthday Song! Modified to work with Adafruit's Circuit Playground

To play the song just press the right button on the Circuit Playground

Thanks to Mike Barela for writing a guide for the Tone library for CP His tutorial can be found here: https://learn.adafruit.com/circuit-playground-music/the-sound-of-music */

#include #include "pitches.h"

// Melody notes: int melody[]= {NOTE_G3, NOTE_G3, NOTE_A3, NOTE_G3, NOTE_C4, NOTE_B3, NOTE_G3,NOTE_G3, NOTE_A3,NOTE_G3, NOTE_D4, NOTE_C4, NOTE_G3, NOTE_G3, NOTE_G4,NOTE_E4,NOTE_C4, NOTE_B3, NOTE_A3, NOTE_F4, NOTE_F4, NOTE_E4, NOTE_C4, NOTE_D4, NOTE_C4 };

// note durations: 4 = quarter note, 8 = eighth note, etc.: int noteDurations[] = { 8,8,4,4,4,2,8,8,4,4,4,2,8,8,4,4,4,4,3,8,8,4,4,4,2 };

void setup() {

CircuitPlayground.begin(); }

void loop() { if(CircuitPlayground.rightButton()) { for (int thisNote = 0; thisNote < 26; thisNote++) { int noteDuration = 1000/noteDurations[thisNote]; // to calculating note duration (1 second divided by the note type) CircuitPlayground.playTone(melody[thisNote],noteDuration); // to distinguish the notes, set a minimum time between them. int pauseBetweenNotes = noteDuration * 1.60; delay(pauseBetweenNotes); noTone(8); } } }

Next add a new tab and name that file pitches.h which is a list notes and their frequencies by Brett Hagman

-copy and paste the following into that file

-save it

Step 2: Upload the Code

Make sure you've added the support for the Circuit Playground as explained on this tutorial from Adafruit.

-Select the Adafruit Circuit PLayground under boards as well as its COM port

-Click upload

Step 3: Make It Portable

- I used a 3 x AAA Battery Holder with On/Off Switch and 2-Pin JST connector to provide power to the board

Feel free to tweak the code as you'd like .

- Questions, Feedback, Compliments and requests all welcomed :) :
