Healthy Smoothie
Intro: Healthy Smoothie
Hi, this is my first instructable, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. This is a healthy smoothie that I make often for the family. I plan on entering this recipe in the Super Foods contest, so if you enjoy this, please vote! Thanks for your support!
Ingredients:
1 Banana
2 cups baby spinach
1 Tablespoon honey
1 Tablespoon Chia/Flax seed mix
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup low fat vanilla flavored yogurt
1/2 bag of thawed, frozen strawberries
(this is about 1 1/2 lb.)
Garnish:
shredded sweetened coconut
orange slice
Tools:
Two cup measure
Table spoon
Blender

STEP 1: Add Ingredients
Add all the ingredients to the blender.
Note: My 10 month old son loves this smoothie, so I make this without honey when he drinks it, as recommend by our pediatrician. No honey or peanuts until he is a year old.
Another Note: You can add more honey, or another sweetener (maple syrup, brown sugar, etc.) if you like your smoothie sweeter. All measurements can be changed to your taste.
I use baby spinach instead of kale because kale has a very strong flavor. Baby spinach has a lot of good things in it, but it won't over power the flavor of the smoothie.
I used Strawberries, because they are my favorite, but any berry can be used. The frozen strawberries I used did not have any sugar added to them. Blueberry's have a lot of antioxidants in them, and would be great in this smoothie.

What is the total volume of the recipe? What size blending container do I need? Using weight measures is more accurate as I don't know how tightly the spinach is pressed into that 2 cup measure. Thanks. I'm sure this will be great once I get around to making it.

This looks excellent! I'm always put off a bit by the color of these shakes, but I still drink one almost everyday. :)
Good stuff! Thanks for sharing your recipe!
