Introduction: Heated Slippers

This will show you how to make microwaveable heated slippers from rice.

Materials and Supplies:

1. Soft warm fabric (at least a fat quarter)

2. pen and paper

3. scissors

4. rice (at least 24oz)

5. sewing machine or needle and thread

6. tape

Step 1: Heated Slippers

Step One:

First get a pair of shoes and trace them on a piece of paper and cut them out so you have the bottom shoe templates. Second take a sheet of paper, cover the top of your shoe, trace and cut out the shape. Third tape the top and bottom pieces together to make any adjustments to your paper shoe.

Step 2: Heated Slippers

Step two:

First use your template pieces and trace them on your fabric. You will need two left bottoms, two right bottoms, and four top pieces. Next cut out all your pieces and pair them together so corresponding right sides are facing each other. Then pin and sew a ¼ in. seam around each piece but leave a 2 in. space for turning and filling. Snip corners off and snip around edges. Turn and press.

Step 3: Heated Slippers

Step three:

Fill your pieces half full of rice (and scented oils if you want them) about 4oz. for bottoms and 8oz for the tops. Then sew the pieces closed. Lay flat and smooth the rice around and sew through the top pieces a few times to keep the rice from moving around. You can also do this to the bottom but I didn’t because I wanted to move the rice around with my toes. Sew the top piece together where the back of your ankle would be. Next sew the top piece to the top of the bottom piece. Then flip inside out. I wanted mine plain but you can add decorations just remember not to add any metals or something that would melt in a microwave. Heat for 60 sec. and enjoy toasty toes.
