Heidi es un miembro más de la familia, pero tiene algunas particularidades: detesta el frío, no ayuda en la tareas domésticas, y encima tiene demasiadas pretensiones con la comida. Lo que la salva es que es hermosa y sabe ronronear.

Hace unos años que le vengo construyendo un hogar calefaccionado al principio de cada invierno, y ella lo aprovecha más o menos 20 horas por día. Duerme ahí cuando no lo hace sobre mi cama o al lado de una estufa. Y a mí me produce una gran satisfacción ver que ella valore mi buena intención.


Heidi is a member of the family, but she has some peculiarities: hates the cold, does not help in household chores, and has too many claims over the food. What saves her is that she's beautiful and knows to purr.

A few years ago I build for her a heatedhome at the beginning of winter, and she takes it about 20 hours a day. Sleeps there when does not on my bed or next to a stove. And to me is a great satisfaction to see that she valued my good intentions.

Step 1: Un Termotanque (a Water Heater)

Cuando compré la casa en 1998, en la galería del fondo había un termotanque. Una de mis primeras tareas fue construirle una caja de MDF, para ocultarlo un poco a la vista.  Y cuando vino el primer invierno de Heidi, siendo ella todavía una gatita de menos de un año, me di cuenta de que le encantaba dormir sobre la tapa del termotanque, arrimada al caño de venteo.


When I bought the house in 1998, the back gallery had a water heater. One of my first tasks was to build an MDF box to keep it out of sight. And when first winter came to Heidi, when she was still a less than a year kitten, I realized that she loved to sleep on top of the water heater, leaning against the pipe vent.

Step 2: Cardboard (cartones)


Dado que esta es una "casa de temporada", que desaparece cada año al llegar los primeros calores, la construcción no es demasiado esmerada. Si fuera permanente, sería de MDF o madera terciada.

Consta de un techo de una sola pendiente, para evitar la acumulación de pequeñas cosas arriba del mismo. Está apoyado sobre dos paredes, con un agujero para el caño de venteo. Dado que el caño está inclinado en un sentido, y atraviesa el cartón que está inclinado en otro sentido, no es sencillo para mí determinar la forma que debe tener el agujero, así que generalmente lo hago en varias aproximaciones, y termino remendándolo con algunos cartones a su alrededor. 

Todo el conjunto está pegado con cinta de embalaje, tanto los cartones entre sí como contra la pared.

Las primeras versiones eran más cerradas, con solo una puerta en vez de tener todo el frente abierto, pero a Heidi eso parece darle un poco de temor, así que decidí dejarla abierta como se ve ahora.


Since this is a "season's home", which disappears every year to get the first heat, the construction is not too careful. If it where permanent, it would be MDF or plywood.

It consists of a single slope roof, to prevent the accumulation of little things above it. It is supported on two walls, with a hole for the vent pipe. Since the pipe is tilted in one direction, and through the cardboard that is tilted in another direction, it is not easy for me to determine what form should have the hole, so I usually do several approaches, and ended with some mending boards around.

The entire assembly is glued with packing tape, both cardboard together and to the wall.

Early versions were closed, with only one door instead of having all the front open, but it seems give to Heidi a little afraid, so I decided to leave it open as it looks now.
