Hexagonal Nut Earrings

Intro: Hexagonal Nut Earrings

After transforming screws into earrings (https://www.instructables.com/id/Screw-Earrings/) I decided I wanted to make more industrial inspired jewelry! While at the local hardware store, I noticed some screw nuts and decided they were the perfect size and shape (who doesn't love hexagons?!) for more jewelry experimentation! Follow these steps to create your own very quick and inexpensive pair of hexagonal earrings.

STEP 1: What You Need

1. Stainless steel or zinc machine screw nuts

2. Earring posts

3. E6000 glue or J-B Weld

Optional Materials:

4. Toothpick

5. Acrylic paint

6. Thin paintbrush

STEP 2: Glue!!!

Read the instructions for the glue or epoxy that is being used. For these earrings I used E6000 glue, but J-B Weld would also work well. Place dots of glue or epoxy around one flat end of a nut. Repeat this step for the second nut.

Note: If one side of the nut is scratched, place the glue or epoxy on that side. Those scratches will be hidden once the earring post is in place.

STEP 3: Add the Earring Posts

Place an earring post on the center of each nut. Press the post onto the nut so that any excess glue or epoxy is squeezed out. If using E600, allow the glue to dry completely. Once the glue had dried, I was able to simply peel off the excess glue (as shown in the second picture). However, if you choose to use J-B Weld, you will need to clean off excess epoxy before it dries!

STEP 4: Optional: Jazz 'Em Up!

Optional: Once the glue or epoxy is completely dry, use a thin paintbrush to paint the inside of the nut with any color of acrylic paint! Allow the paint to dry completely. Apply additional coats if needed. Once dried, painting mistakes can be scraped off the nut with a toothpick.

STEP 5: Rock Those Earrings!!!

Make everyone jealous while rocking these fun hexagonal earrings!

Good job. A lady with fasteners for earrings is not to be trifled with!

These are great :D
I'm going to get some off my step dad...
Do you think putting a nail jem in the middle would work or would it just fall out
I would think the glue would work great for that! Please post a picture of your final product!

I suggest making rivet earrings next.....I like these! Keep going!

Yay! Thanks for the encouragement!

Cute! It would be fun to see how nut + screw earrings would look :)
