Introduction: Hidden Bonsai Tree Safe
Step 1: Cutting the Wire
You will want To cut 8 pieces of 20 gauge wire about 5 inches long
Step 2: Coiling the Tree
Now you want to put all the wire together and grip one end with pliers then about halfway up the wire take other needle nose pliers and start to twist in until half of it is all coiled up
Step 3: Making the Branches
Now you want to grab two of the pieces of wire then twist them up you can use pliers but I used my hands
Do this for the rest of the branches
Step 4: Fixing the Roots
You just want to flatten the roots out so the tree can stand up
Step 5: Fixing It Up
You want to bend the tree around to make it look more realistic and then cover the trunk with air dry clay
Step 6: Painting
I used brown spray paint I got at a hardware store
Step 7: Adding the Leaves
Now you want to cover the branches with glue and stick the branches in a big bunch of clump foliage I got mine for a bout $10 on eBay. wait for the glue to dry and then shake off any extra clump foliage.
Step 8: Preparing the Jar
You will want to trace around the lip of your jar and cut it out on card board then trim a little bit at a time into it fits snugly about one third of an inch down into the jar
Step 9: Making the Jar
Now you want to spread clear drying glue on the inside of the jar then fill the jar with dirt take out any dirt that does not stick to the wall and repeat about two or three times
Step 10: Covering the Base With Dirt
Now you want to cover the base of the tree with glue and then cover it with dirt it's it dries shake off any extra dirt then repeat two or three times
Step 11: Finishing
Now hide stuff in it and put the tree base in it and it is done

I had so much fun making this! I did make a few modifications: I used coffee grounds instead of dirt because soil is hard to come by with all this snow! and instead of hiding money I hid elastic hair bands because I'm always losing them :) These instructions were very easy to follow and it didn't take long to make. The only thing that might make things easier is to know what kind of glue to buy. I used Elmer's but it was a little tricky...is there a better glue out there? Thanks so much for a great, fun idea!
