Home Made HEAT Boost

Have you seen the product which was made and shown on the Dragons Den?? Well there was this product which is meant to make your radiator more powerful on lower settings using two fairly small fans. So I came up with an idea of putting this Instructable together hope you like it.

I do give who ever made this invention full copyright meaning i do not take the role of inventer of this eco friendly tool.

Step 1: What You Will Need

You will need:
some kind of cardboard
2X CPU fan (I only used one)
A Ruler
Pens pencil
Scoring device can be a screw driver
An old power supply no more than 12Volts
Paper
and some radiator measurements
Selotape

Step 2: Measurements

Measure the radiator/s and make sure the fan you are using is going to be small enough as this will not work well. Then draw this out as long as you need on the cardboard. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A TAB!!!

Step 3: Scoring

Score along the lines with a ruler to create straight lines so you get a nice even box shape but make sure you have got a tab. Then slice some neat even holes into the box to create some flaps on the bottom of the tube in the middle. now you need to move the fan in side, you can use superglue to finally secure and make sure you feed the cable along the tube. The fan needs to be about 8-9 CMs from the end you need to this on each side if you are using 2 fans. You also need the create a Flap beside where the fan is with the grill side of the fan showing through this flap(Like shown Below).

Step 4: Wiring Up

You now need to wire the fan up first using a multimeter find out which is positive and which is negative then connect either by plugs, Chocolate blocks or soldering. I used a Speed fan control unit to control the speed of the fan this also can be purchased from maplin this has a alarm so if it stops it bleeps it is advised that you don't run it for more than 6 hours. You can now test your final product.

could you maybe use a thermal peltier to run the fan, so when your heating is on the fun will run for free.

Nice idea. I've been planning to make an air filter and now I might make it a dual purpose air filter/heat boost. I'd like to suggest you add one more picture or a couple of extra sentences describing the intake vent. The one sentence you have doesn't say that the "neat even holes" are where the air enters the box and it took me a while to puzzle that out.

You might want to explain what the overall goal of this is. How does a small fan boost heat? Is it supposed to circulate the heat around the room better? Does it force air into the radiator? I would think an oscillating fan in front of the radiator would be much more effective.

it is to draw the air through the rad, not blow air around a room.

This is a good idea.Keep in mind if you were to use a more powerful fan the air flowing though the radiator wouldn't heat sufficiently.
