Home Remedies For Brittle Nails - How To Strengthen Weak and Brittle Nails And Avoid Nail Breaking

Many of us hanker for those long, shapely nails, well manicured and painted. But have you had any problems with nails that seem to crack and chip too easily? In other words, do you have brittle nails?

Nails form a sort of shield to protect the tips of our fingers, but with age they sometimes become brittle. However, this is not only age related, but could be due to medicals reasons like hypothyroidism, applying nail paint over a long period of time, or even prolonged moisture exposure when washing.

Here is a simple way of ensuring your nails stay moisturized, infection free, without chipping or breaking easily. Take 1/4 cup of coconut oil or olive oil. Add 1 tsp of lemon juice. Mix well. Now massage each finger nail with this at bedtime. For best results, wear gloves while asleep.

Alternatively, you can just apply slightly warm coconut oil to the nails a couple of times a day.

In 1/4 cup of water, add 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar. Soak your nails in this for about 5-6 minutes. Now gently push the cuticles down with the blunt tip of an emery board. Try doing this daily for a few days.

Plain and simple lemon juice works wonders not just for nourishing the nails, but also for removing the ugly yellow tinge left after prolonged nail polish use. Squeeze out the juice of a lemon in a small bowl. Apply this on the nails with a tiny cotton ball. Let it dry, and wash off with warm water.

Remember, nails are on display at all times, so keep them healthy and well nourished.
