Introduction: Homemade Bounty Bars
When I was child my mother used make different variations of Snickers, Mars and any other chocolate bar. They were delicious, but often didn't have anything in common with the originals.
A few days ago I bought Bounty for myself and the idea was born. After a short research I decided to make my own Bounty bars. They taste similar but somehow better.
Hope you are going to like it. :)
Also, I would be really grateful if you could support me here.
You'll need:
200g (7oz) shredded coconut
70g (2,5oz) powdered sugar
70g (2,5oz) butter
100ml (3,3oz) heavy whipping cream
Step 1: Bounty Bar Preparation
1. In a saucepan mix the butter and heavy whipping cream. Heat gently over a hot water, stirring until it is well blended and dissolved.
2. Mix shredded coconut and powdered sugar.
Step 2: Preparing the Paste
Pour melted butter and heavy cream over shredded coconut and sugar mixture. Mix everything together to make a thick and sticky paste.
Step 3: How to Shape the Bars
Using your hands, form rectangles or any other form you like with the paste you made before. Press firmly to make sure the rectangles will keep their shape and won't fall apart. Put rectangles on parchment paper and refrigerate for one hour.
Step 4: Chocolate Coating
You'll need 250g of chocolate. I used dark chocolate but you could also use regular milk chocolate.
Microwave 2/3 on medium power for 30 seconds, stir, then repeat in 15 seconds interval until the chocolate has melted.
After that add the rest of the chocolate and stir until completely melted. Wait for minute or two and start dipping bars in the chocolate coating.
When completely coated put them back in the refrigerator for another 30 minutes.
Step 5: Support Me :)

Oh my god! You just gave me the best idea! Thank you!

;) you're welcome.
if you add alcoholic flavor while hot, much of the alcohol can evaporate.

Super!! This makes me go crazy thinking of all the different variations one could do to this wonderful creation of yours. I will make some bars by adding some crushed biscuits and cereals instead of the grated coconut......to get my very own homemade cereal bars ! One could even add chopped peanuts, raisins, cashew nuts,almonds.....and whatever else that they like....to come up with some fine homemade chocolates, all thanks to your idea.
ALL THE BEST for your Indiegogo campaign.

nice recipe I tried some a while ago but failed but these are extraordinarily good (btw where did you get that measuring bowl this is genius)
Reply 7 years ago on Introduction
You should try to make them again! You are probably wiser now. :)
Measuring bowl my aunt bought here in Zagreb few years ago. She said that she didn't see the same bowl long time now. I will steal it one day from her. :)

Looks delicious, though not much like a Bounty bar with the real butter and heavy cream. (You don't find ingredients like that in commercial candy bars.)
One change I would make would be to use some baker's chocolate, or bulk chocolate, instead of the Lindt bars. Much less expensive that way.

Thank you for your advice. This time I had only Lindt chocolate, which I adore.
I know, ingredients are not the same, but the flavour was pretty similar.

Oh, I wasn't criticizing your choice of ingredients, I was commenting on the quality of mass produced candy bars. Glucose and powdered milk are among the ingredients in Bounty bars, plus a few other things, but definitely not real butter and cream. I'm sure these taste wonderful, and I would love them. But if I gave my husband one he'd take one bite, wrinkle up his nose, say "it tastes different" and hand it back to me. He just doesn't know what good food is.
Lindt chocolate- meh. I can take it or leave it. Not enough difference in quality to make it worth the price, imho. But I know lots of people who love it. :)

Haha. I'm just so happy my family eats everything I make and actually we all love those ingredients. :)

your recipe looks great and I will certainly try it out. In the past I have made my own version of Bounty Bars with the inside being just a mix of condensed milk and shredded coconut ( and of course the chocolate around it !!) the taste is very close to the original and very simple to make.

Glad you like it! :)
It's hard to find good condensed milk here in Croatia but I'll sure make version with it this winter in the States.

Looks delicious, the chocolate makes me drool! Could you use coconut oil or some nut butter with some honey/maple syrup and coconut cream instead of butter, sugar, and heavy cream for a healthier and vegan alternative?
Reply 7 years ago on Introduction
Hi! You could use coconut oil instead of butter and coconut oil instead of heavy whipping cream. It’s a straight substitution 1:1. I never tried that, but it should be good. Maybe even better. Do let me know if you try. :)
