Introduction: Homemade Clay Friendship Pendants

Using items found at home and a few simple things from the craft store you can easily make a few rad friendship pendants.

Step 1: Items You'll Need

For this clay you will use:

1 cup baking soda
1 cup corn starch
3/4 cup water

paint and jewelry pins

Step 2: Making the Clay

Mix the baking soda, corn starch and water together. Heat over medium until the items start to clump together. The consistency will turn play dough like. Take the clay off the heat and let cool until you can handle the clay.

Step 3: Form Shapes

Once the clay has cooled start forming it into hearts. I found the best way to do this was to roll a small piece into a ball pinch one corner. Then take a pair of scissors and split the other side to form a heart like shape. Once I had the basic shape, I flattened out the pieces to make flat hearts. After flattening cut the pieces in half.

Step 4: Add Decorations and Ring

At this point I came up with a few classic friend characters that worked well for friendship pendants. Dr Who, Star Trek and Superman/Wonder woman. made my cut. I added small pieces to make the heart shapes into characters. Also at this point I added rings to the tops so the items could be strung into necklaces.

Step 5: Dry and Paint

After you have added all the embellishments to the heart pieces let them dry for 24 hours. Once they are dry paint them and let them sit for another 24 hours.

There you go. With a little imagination and some home made clay you can make some awesome heart pendants.
Of note if the clay starts to dry out before you are finished with it a little water will help to make it sticky again. A little water goes a long way and too much can make the items gritty.

Some colors will require layers on top of the clay. I found that adding too much paint at once makes the clay sticky. Small bits of painting at a time works best.
