Intro: Homemade Mini Heating Plate

This will show you how to make a micro heating plate

STEP 1: Parts

First you need small wire (shown in first picture) then take out about 2.5 inches of wire and then wind the silver wire around the plastic insulation for the wire then you need a penny and some super glue

STEP 2: Put Together

Then glue the coil to the penny and let it dry and voala

When making the coil is it preferable that the twists not touch each other? I am trying to heat a 12" length of memory wire and have it wrapped tight like an electro-magnet. Any suggestions?

but you could regular glue and the coil causes the heat and I found that you can use a light bulb filament
Awesome instructable! thanks for the idea. I like how you didn't write way too much. it's very simple and should be that way. good job. just what I needed.

I stumbled upon this by mistake when make igniters for my model rockets and I just used a regular wire and a 9 volt so thanks for the advice I think I might solder the wire to the penny and then tape another penny in top of it
Ok so what causes the heating? I mean if you hook this up to a battery or some wall wart or something you need to add that or this is just a non-instructable. Not trying to be mean but this seems unfinished. Also if this heats up and you are using super glue you are going to heat the cyanocryalate glue releasing cyanide, while the small amount here probably won't do any lasting harm, repeated exposure will! Please elaborate on this and include what type of wire. I suggest nichrome and some sort of heat resistant bonding agent and a regulated power supply.
