Introduction: Homemade Marinara Sauce

This is a simple homemade marinara sauce. The ingredients listed below make approximately 6 cups of sauce.

It will take about 30 minutes to prepare and 1 hour to cook.

Ingredients:
Olive oil (approximately 1/8-1/4 cup)
1 large onion
3-6 cloves of garlic (optional)
3-6 fresh tomatoes (optional)
2 cans diced tomatoes (14.5 oz)
2 cans tomato sauce (8 oz)

Herbs:
1 heaping tsp basil
1 heaping tsp oregano
1 heaping tsp marjoram
1 tsp rosemary
1 tsp thyme
Salt to taste (approximately 1 tsp)
Pepper to taste (approximately 1/2 tsp)

Utensils Needed:
Saucepan or deep frying pan (approximately 10 inches in diameter)
Spoon to stir
Cutting board
Knives
Stove

Step 1:

First, pour enough olive oil into saucepan to cover the bottom (approximately 1/8-1/4 cup).

Turn burner to the lowest temperature.

Chop onions, garlic, and fresh tomatoes.

Step 2:

Next, add the onions to the olive oil, raise to a medium temperature and sauté.

Then, add the garlic and sauté.

Step 3:

Now, add fresh tomatoes and sauté.

Add the cans of diced tomatoes and tomato sauce.

Stir and bring to a boil.

Step 4:

Turn the heat down to a medium temperature and add:
1 heaping teaspoon basil
1 heaping teaspoon oregano
1 heaping teaspoon marjoram
1 tsp rosemary
1 tsp thyme
salt and pepper to taste (approx 1 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp pepper)

Stir and bring to a boil.

Boil for 15 minutes stirring frequently.

Step 5:

Turn to a low temperature and let simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.

This hour allows the herbs to diffuse evenly throughout the tomato sauce.

Serve hot over pasta and enjoy!
