Homemade Cheese With Only Two Ingredients!

Introduction: Homemade Cheese With Only Two Ingredients!

Hello!

This Instructable will show you how to make cheese! It's very easy. For the basic recipe, you will only need two ingredients: Milk and lemon juice!

Step 1: Ingredients

For the cheese, you will need:

  • Milk
  • Lemon Juice
  • Optional: Seasoning: I used some basil. You can also add some salt or other herbs if you like.

Step 2: Tools

You will need:

  • two pans
  • a sieve
  • a ladle
  • a plate
  • a dish-towel (If you use basil, it will probably become dirty)

Step 3: Fill the Pan

Pour the milk into the pan.

Step 4: Boil

Boil the milk. I recommend to set the fire on medium height.

Step 5: Lemon Juice!

Pour the lemon juice into the pan with milk.

Step 6: Stir It!

Stir the milk with the lemon juice with a wooden spoon.

Step 7: Clots Start to Form.

After a while, clots start to form on the surface. Now, it's important that you keep stirring. It's not grave, if the milk boils. If it boils, put the fire a little bit lower.

Step 8: More and Bigger Clots Start to Form

More clots start to form and the clots become bigger. The aqueous liquid becomes white-yellow and feculent.

Step 9: Drain

Place the sieve on top of the pan. Drain the clots and liquid in the sieve. The clots wil stay in the sieve, the feclent liquid will go through the sieve and drip into the pan.

Step 10: The Basil

Tear the basil in small pieces.

Step 11: Add Basil

Put the cheese on a dish-towel on a plate. Put some seasoning (basil) on the cheese.

Step 12: Knead

Knead the cheese in a dish-towel, so the dish-towel will absorb the water from the cheese.

Step 13: Eat It!

The cheese is now ready to eat. If you want, you can remove the basil from the cheese.

I used basil, because I love the taste of basil. I think that the basil is a nice seasoning.

Wow, this looks pretty simple. I'll have to try it one day.

How does kneading the cheese change the texture from simply hanging the cheese?

If I just hang the cheese to drain overnight, I get a smooth buttery spreading cheese (farmers cheese, quark, Philadelphia )

If I knead the the cheese on a board like a bread dough, I get a chewy mozzarella-like paneer.

You must not knead the cheese like dough. You just have to get the water out of the cheese by pinching. If you want softer cheese, don't pinch the cheese. You can decide yourself what sort of cheese you want.
