I'm glad you mention those magazines, my dad had a Time-life subscription, and I do remember seeing in one of those books a few pages dedicated to homemade tool fixtures, I was just flipping some pages but can't find the one I'm describing. Time to do some old school reading :) it is only 12 of them wood related. Good stuff. Greetings from Mexico.
Thank you! At first I underestimated the time to build it, thought it was going to be a one day project, I was wrong it took me 4 / 5 hrs days, but it is worth every minute. I have used it half a dozen times with different accessories and I'm loving it.
It's worth the effort if you have the time. I remember when Fine Woodworking Magazine first began publishing, they used to feature shop-built tools. Sort of like Popular Mechanics did 100 years ago.
FWW did an article on a shop-built 8" jointer. It was a huge beast and made mostly from MDF. Nowadays, there aren't many people building big woodworking machinery. The odd sander or small lathe, maybe.
The home machinists are the ones that are building big machines ;-)
