Introduction: Homopolar Motor Zoetropes
This Intractable is made to show you how to create a Zoetropes using a Homopolar Motor. We have all seen how fast spinning objects blur to make an image. This tutorial is made with the intention of allowing anyone to make a pocket-sized Zoetropes that you could use for your own fun.
1 AA Battery, uninsulated copper wire, at least 2 neodymium disc magnets, set of pictures that were taken right after each-other, pliers, Highlighter that has roughly a ½ in diameter Tape
Step 1: Step 1
Step 2: Step 2
Stack neodymium disc magnets on top of each other and place battery on top.
Step 3: Step 3
Use the highlighter that has a diameter of about ½ in to shape the wire into a coil shape. Make sure it is about the height of the battery.
Step 4: Step 4
Adjust the coil so that the bottom end is touching the magnets and the top end is touching the top of the battery.
Step 5: Step 5
Shape another piece of wire into a circle that fits around the coil. Using tape to secure the set of images onto the circle.
Step 6: Step 6
Tape the image circle to the coil. Place coil on battery stack and make sure the ends of the coil are in place. If it does not spin fast enough add more neodymium disc magnets underneath the battery.
