Introduction: Hot Glue Snowflakes

About: I like to try anything once and dabble in a bit of everything.

Hot Glue is an excellent medium for shaping and forming dimensional objects. Using a few sticks of hot glue, and a glue gun, you can make these simple yet adorable snowflake decorations.

Step 1: Materials Needed

The materials needed for this project are:

-Parchment paper
Parchment paper is typically used for baking. Wax paper will not work for this project.

-hot glue sticks

-a fairly high temperature hot glue gun

-glitter

-a sharpie

-a paint brush

Step 2: Planning and Prep

Once all your materials have been gathered, draw a snowflake on the parchment paper. This will help you as you lay a bead of glue on the paper. Make sure that the diameter is at least roughly 7cm/3 inches, so that you have enough space to add details.

In the meantime, plug in your hot glue gun and let it get nice and hot.

Step 3: Tracing the Lines With Glue

Flip over the parchment paper (so the pen ink doesn't transfer to the snowflake). Begin to trace one line of the snowflake with hot glue.

Be sure to do this step on a heat resistant surface.

Step 4: Sprinkle Glitter

Sprinkle glitter over the line. If you want, you can gently tap the glitter into the glue with the paint brush.

Step 5: Brush Away Excess

Brush away the excess glitter with a paint brush, over the lines, so that you can trace over another line.

Step 6: Continue

Continue to glue / trace the lines, sprinkle glitter, and brush away excess until the entire snowflake is finished.

Step 7: Let Cool

Let the glue cool completely. This may take a few minutes depending on the temperature of your hot glue gun.

Step 8: Shake and Peel

Once cooled, shake off the excess glitter and gently peel off the snowflake. You should find that it comes off easily.

Step 9: Display and Decorate

You can add on a piece of string (using hot glue of course) and hang these snowflakes anywhere. They are lightweight so they will hang virtually any place you want. You can also add these to gift packages for an added touch.
