Take two bottles, which you think are good enough for a hourglass and easily available around you.
Step 1: Join & Color
After pasting the tape on top of them join both of them with a glue gun and the plastic from the remaining bottle.
And then color them with acrylic spray paints of your choice on the outer side.
Remove the tape carefully and clear the shapes from a thinner, nail polish remover.

Now stick the colored wooden piece on one side from glue gun and pour the red sand in to it, you can add other colors if you like.
